    6.5 superlight

Evening gents. A question for the tikka t3 superlight owners. How do you all get on with your 3 shot moa accuracy? I Have a superlight from new in 6.5 creed shooting factory hornady whitetail ammo. First two shots at 100 yards are well under an inch but my third shot always seems to be a flyer, pushing my group over 1 inch Moa. I've owned a few standard t3s in bigger calibers and never had much problem getting a 3 shot group under 1 inch. Is the fluted barrel heating up to quickly creating a flyer? T.I.A

fluting increases surface area so in theory barrel should cool faster, have you tried other ammo?

Check the recoil lug is correctly connecting to action and stock .... then reassemble to to specified action screw torques (sorry don't know whats optimal for a Tikka)

Yeah but don't they also heat up faster? Yes I tried Norma 130 gr Scirocco. They shot like well over an inch. Cheers.

It’s 35 inch pounds with the standard stock.
Don’t know what that is whatever the new fangled measure is.

I had a superlight .260 was one of the most accurate rifles ive had 3 shots in one hole time after time.
I only sold to go to a Sako carbon light.

Wow! That with hand loads? So from that i take it fluted barrels dont make any dif? Just seems weird I get 2 really tight shots and then one flyer. Never had any other t3 do that. My friend shot it as well and had the same thing happen, just after he shot a half inch group with his remmy. I'm running optilocks all tightened properly and a ziess conquest 3x9x40.

It would pay to see if any pressure points.
I use 143 eldx and either Hodgdon superprofrmance or RL26 my Sako carbon light Creedmoor shoots just as well.
The eldx is an awesome bullet

Sorry imp what do you mean by pressure points?
I'd love to get my hands on some eldx. Can get the powder and 130gr eldms. What speeds are you getting with the 143s? I chronoed the 130gr factory ammo at 2630. Seems pretty slow.
Might try some hornady 143gr eldx factory loads and see how they shoot before I decide to hand load for it.

Test: make shot one, then walk away for 5 minutes, come back and make shot two, walk away for 5 minutes, come back and make shot three might be a telling result.

Yeah good call. I will chuck it in the lead slead and try a few options. Don't mind the wee caliber. It's a puppy to shoot.

Possibly the ammo that white tails not the best but the projectile it uses is awesome iv had plenty of flutted tikkas and sakos all shot well is it suppressed mate? It’s an awesome calibre all right a box of the match could be worth trying to eliminate ammo issues

You could try waiting longer between shots to try isolate the barrel heating being the issue.
You could also try shooting more than 3 shot groups to see if it's a 3rd shot flier or if it's just the way the ammo shoots.
My guess would be the ammo is just 1 moa ammo, you could try some hornady match ammo to see if that shoots any better.

Not a super lite but my standard lite 260 wouldn't show much in the way of stringing even over a 10 shot string, would shoot well under .5moa with hand loads.
Barrel fluting can induce stresses into the barrel, or expose existing stresses in the barrel that occur after the barrel starts heating up.

My shots are all back to back no waiting.
All my rifles are free floating so no stock material touching.
I get 2811fps with the eldx the 140 or 147 eldm is another worth a try.
I find it easier to shoot groups with a higher mag scope 15 or 18 power and a small dot for a target.
All my groups are shot from a bipod with a rear bag.

Yeah I thought the white tail was possibly the problem. So I went to norma 130gr sciroccos. And they were worse! Will give the factory eldx a crack. The interbonds are awesome in the white tail aye. Shot a spiker from 200 yards with them. Found the projectile while skinning. All the pettles where still intact and nice mushroom must be close to 90% bullet retention. Nar mate the rifles standard as. No Can. It is the walnut stock model. Possible bedding issue could be the other thing I thought 🤔
