Hurry up and buy it man, you wont be sorry believe me.
Will put some posts up when properly finished
Hello
Having had a couple of 6.5-06's, neither of which I could ever get to "advertised" velocities with acceptable accuracy I wouldn't go down that track again (or 6.5/284 which is the same thing, maybe with a slightly more efficient/modern shape).
I think I'd decide whether I wanted another long action or a short first. If you happen to think short then the 6.5 Creedmoor is worth thinking about. The one I had gave an honest 2800 with 140's, and just under 3000 with 129's, was super easy to get to shoot. Dammed if I know how it did it cause that's nearly 270 ballistics from a piss-pot little case from a 20" barrel. I sold my Creedmoor but have another (more expensive) one on order.
As it happens, I have a 6.5x55 and it kills critters large and small without drama out to sensible ranges, if I think I might be up for something a bit further out, I reach for something else with faster or bigger wheels, Robbie has been trying to talk me into using an action I have spare to build a 6.5 STW, now that, is a 6.5 hotrod !, so far I have resisted, so far.....
Looked at these?

Tried to view this but as with every post from @Kiwi Greg I can't get the photos up, might just be my computer... rocket ship and probably a touch over the top for me...must be getting old... lol
Worked for me and looked good.
26 Nosler - at least it's a factory round
Going back to the original post a 308 is probably all you want. Good out to 300m plus. Good for a bush hobbit gun and reasonable for more open country. Plenty of options with 'roll your owns' too.
6.5x55 is a brilliant setup if you reload. Run the numbers 140gn amax @ 2750fps... That's 1000ftlb to 700yards
Plenty of range and oomf for most people.
My 6.5 is chopped to 18.5 with a suppressor added; I was still pushing 140's @ 2600 which is 1000ftlb to 600 yards again, PLENTY.
Andy, maybe you are a better shot than me.
I'm not saying they don't kill at longer range, I just don't like the slower expiry of the animal.
Put it this way i dont leave much to chance with the whole package with gear prep and suitability of conditions and not to mention alot of range time before i take the longer shots as i beleive in ethical
Shooting.
I try to leave the longer shots for the 338 as a rule but the right time right place the 6.5 will do it

you would need to know the history on a second hand 6.5 saum as its only going to have a 1500 round barrel life. 6.5*55 probably has twice that.
Love mine @Double Shot mine is built on a P17 action its the first rifle i go to when heading bush, no factory ammo for it but i enjoy reloading.
Any chance I can give you a call @mucko...
Been using a 6.5x06 for a few years worked well. Started using 100gr tsx's at 3300 lately and I'm very impressed with the way it kills.
Fight, i hate peace!☺
