Saturday...Saturday .....Saturday nights all right :P
I suspect there is a confounding of variables there.
The 284 case was designed to be '06 capacity but obviously shorter. Everything else being equal, I'd expect less than 100fps in either direction, probably less.
Accuracy-wise, you'd put your money on the 284 version- these were the default choice for F-Class a few years back before the bigger 7s came into favour
As I mentioned earlier I've not gotten as much velocity as one is supposed to from my two 6.5-06's but Brian has so go figure. The case capacities of the 6.5-284, 6.5-06 and 6.5 Rem mag are identical so the only variables that will give one the edge velocity wise are leade/throat design and the actual barrel.
I couldn't get much speed with 140's or 129's thought I had a slow barrel. !00's and 2213 have got it going. shortened the barrel by 5 inches too.
Oh. I must be wrong then.

Yeah, what would you know
All very interesting.... Nothing quite like a bit of Saturday night taunting... but seriously from all the ballistic bits I've looked at the 6.5mm-06 seems to have a few more feet as mentioned, certainly seems to be a great choice for me... now just to secure the rifle...that is all :)
I would still have my 06 barrel if it were not for a wee reaming blunder.
I load for another blaser barrel 6.5-06 that it is shorter than mine at 24" but is as fast and accurate.
130 scirocco. 3150 fps. It shot well at 3230fps but we were only getting 3-4 goes on a Lapua case.
You will likely get better velocities in a turn bolt gun if that is what you're after.
N560, RL 22 and 25 all seem to run well in them.
Great caliber. I shot more game and steel with it than I have my .260 improved. I didn't think I would notice the difference in performance, but I have.

Cheers R93, well if I get this thing I might ask you to share some data... nothing as flash as a Blaser, just a good ol' Ruger...
And if it doesn't happen I just may find something to make one, will need a good gun smith to do a barrel and reaming job...
An old member on this forum did one in a ruger. He has tried everything other 6.5 variation since as well.
Pretty sure like me he would go back and settle on the 06 in a heartbeat.
My .260 is just so accurate and light on the blaser off road stock.
When it is shot out I will likely go back to the 06.

well my 6.5/06 works fine i can get sub MOA accuracy using barnes 127 LRX being pushed by 44grs 2209 having bothered checking speed find it a bit irrelevant when i have it sub MOA. 140 AMAX seem to do alright but havnt dont heaps of testing with it.
Well F*** that, missed that one, let it go before it went silly.....so it's back to the drawing board...
Who do you suggest I contact re a new 6.5 barrel 1/8 in SS 22in to fit a Ruger M77 Long action and have it reamed for 6.5mm-06... ???
for a 6.5-06 I would stay with a min barrel length of 24 in if you want to get best velocities out of it. In fact 25 or 26 in would be even better, just not ideal for humping thru tight bush . If you want short barrel then the 6.5x284 is a better option.
Out of interest what are others using for powder in 6.5 06, I started off with 2213SC but moved to 2217 with better results (fps and sub moa), thinking I should try 2225 or RL25 to see if that get more speed and retain sub moa ? Thoughts ?
N560 worked best in my '06 barrel. I also agree keeping the min length to 24" for Double Shot. My barrel was a tru-flite. It was a good one, never fouled. My mates is also a tru-flite that shoots amazingly. If I was to do another I would get a Bartlein. Best barrel I have had by a long way. My .260 improved Bartlein, shoots POI and velocity, when cold and clean.
Herbmiester was selling the criterions in 6.5mm for 400 here a while back. Dunno if he still has them
Nick I have a Criterion barrel in 6.5 mm that I purchased off Herbmeister. You won't be disappointed with one - I have one on my 6.5 mm SAUM - it will shoot under 0.5 MOA with 140gr SST'S.
However you will need to get it profiled. SSRNZ charged me $150.00 to profile and crown.
For the ranges mentioned I am hearing; 18" barrelled 308!
