    6.5prc pills

For those hunting with the 6.5prc what's your go too projectile

Got 2 box of 143 eldx and 147 eldm

Was going to run the 147 but seen a few have found them a bit soft and not punching in very far.

Its only a 20" barrel so they wont be going super fast

    Cheers

I have mostly used 140 Amax (20" barrel) and I expect they are similar to the ELDM. Kill very well.

Was disappointed in 140 Berger Hunter.

Have got 200 143 ELDX and 100 147 EDLM now but haven't tried them.

Currently playing with 117 grn Hammers' but the only shot I fired at a deer missed - operator error

What was wrong with the 140gr Berger's @Tahr? Don't expand well at longer ranges? Are you talking about the newer Elite hunters or older VLD Hunters? Was going to be the next pill i tried is all....

VLD Hunter. Just didn't seem to be as emphatic as the Amax. Less internal damage. I shot a big red hind at about 20 yards centre shoulder and she ran 100 yards. Hit another one in the lungs at 250 and there wasn't a drop of blood. Thought I had lost her, but dog found it 100 odd yards away dead down in a creek. The Amax have been flattening them.

It might be because with the 20" barrel the velocity isn't exactly stellar (2,875fps)

Found the 147's from my baby 6.5 went pretty well. Sample size of 1. Impacted approx 2400 and went diagonal thru the boiler room. Mushroomed nicely and recovered under the offside skin, so no exit. Didn't smash the shouders.

Would imagine with the extra speed from a PRC that they might be softer than what would be ideal up close. Will go real good further out though.

ELDX off the shelf - dropped 5 reds in past few months ranging from 380y to 590y no problems.

147 ELDM. Plenty of sectional density to handle most shots near or far at your speeds, unlike a short fat bullet that'll splat. I found the 147 was more accurate than the 143 in my 260Imp

I see TARGEX made good points about "points" in another thread on projectile preformance....I wonder if a slight opening of the tip of them bergers might change them up to a completely different beast???? not suggesting anything too drastic but a gentle filing back to lead or drill of say 2mm to open jacket at tip might be just the ticket.......

Nosler AB or lrab would be a good option
The copper monos are good out to 400 yards in the prc
