    7.62x39 or 300blk

Probably done to death but..... looking at getting either or , bolt action will be reloading so not too concerned about ammo cost. Will get used in the bush can't stretch to a CZ so probably looking at a howa, zastava, or a ruger .
    Thoughts?

7.62x39 used to be popular, now it's the 300blk knowing how trends go 7.62 will come back into fashion in a year or two. Will prob be lots of cheap 300 reloading gear when it does

If you reload why not go 308? Can load it light for kids plinking gun, can stretch it's legs across gullies. Can go subsonic easy too, that's next on the to do list. Got cast projectiles from ShooterNZ just have to get some Trail Boss.
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

    Grendel is the current trend.
I'm tempted to get a 6.5 Grendel barrel from Digit for my hunting AR.

My favorite rifle is a Brno ZKK 601 re-barreled in 7.62x39. I reload for it as the chamber is too tight for cheap steel cased ammo which has a tendency to be hard to extract. Other than that I have found it takes anything inside 200M.
I haven't owned a 300Blk but I am sure it would be very similar. If I was to put a new barrel on though I would certainly go 6.5 Grendel which in my opinion is a nice step up with better ballistics.

6.5 Grendal would have the legs - but I really liked how the 308 pills were available for hunting and gave great knockdown as a short distance rifle - especially for the bush. Everything in life is a trade off....or is it that we just like the trend de jour!

I've just gone from 300 Blk to a 308 bushpig for this reason and still can use my old 196 Max expansion leigh high pills with trail boss if I want a smash'em number!!

Hi @scotty, I have a Ruger mini 30 which I have been listing for sale on and off (cos im scared to let it go!)... It is a great bush gun and has done most of my animals. I reload x39 but it shoots factory just as happily. Handloads are marginally more accurate tho. Ballistics are give or take the same as 300blk. Has a dpt can on it and has gas bushes to suit. PM me if you want to discuss any further. A fantastic we gun, nice and compact.

Had a mini 30 years ago, great for fast action goat and deer bomb ups at bush ranges. It wasn't the most accurate but it still put meat on the table and very reliable. The x39 is a no frills cheap as chips work horse, the 300 BLK requires a bit more work for the novice hunter/reloader. I kill a lot of critters with the 300 BLK it works for me with both supersonics and subsonics.

norinco/bisley 7.62x39mm cut down to fit suppressor right hard up against stock/fit loopy M8 4x scope and laugh ya tits off all day long, anything out to 150 yards is in a power of trouble. mine more than happy with .308 projectiles and a heap of fun with cast and trail boss.
the hornady SST load in 50 pack kills wallabies very very well, cant see goats or fallow being any different.
