Well I just made a phone call to a shop I used to deal with a lot before I shifted I now have a brand new marlin stainless synthetic in 7mm08 with scope set aside for me for a total of $799 (normally $999.00) my neighbour is part owner of the shop so he is able to pick up money and license details then drop off to me on his way home from work.

What's that, a Marlin XS7? That's a good price. I used to have one (sold it to my brother) but mine was blued. It cost me around $900~ from memory so you got a really good deal.

Excellent gun for the money and the accutrigger clone makes them great to shoot off a bench too.

Yup it is the Marlin XS7 with the stainless synthetic being a new release four H&F stores have been selected to give introductory prices on them at catalogue price of the blued synthetic model. I have had an XL7 in 25-06 bloody nice to shoot but the 22" barrel crippled the 25-06 caliber performance wise that cost me $999 back then. so yep I got a bloody good deal.

Sounds like a good deal hunter. Dont get to caught up in cal almost anything 6mm and up is a good alround NZ cal.
I think recoil is 90% in the head. Ie noise I literally cant tell the differnce in felt recoil from my 308 loaded hard with 168gr and the old mans 3006 my mates 7mmmag tikka(soppost to kick like a horse in a tikka) and another mates 700 in 7-08

Wear ear plugs (or muffs if you like sweat) any time you shoot at the range etc when you go hunting you wont even feel or hear it. Stag shot this morning barely even felt it go off
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

308Win One chambering to rule them all.

A real pity that most manufacturer's these days make the likes of the 25-06,270,30-06 and 7mm rem mag in short barrels, a 7mm rem mag needs a 24 at the bare minimum but 25-26" is ideal, the 25-06 which also happens to be my favorite allround calibre needs a 24" aswell but as yet and lord knows why but manufacturer's still keep making 22" versions......... arrrgghh!

Then again if your after a short rifle that can do most things then grab yourself a 20" AR-10 and you can swap it to 260,243 or even 7-08 to name but a few
