Im running 68 grn 2217 with a 162eldx. Had a under half inch group with that and havent worked out the speed yet. 71grn was half inch but was pretty uncomfortable to shoot

With N560 I was getting mental speed in my R93. Stupid like 3150 - 3200 with 162 AMax. Gone to 2225 and doing 3050 with decent accuracy. Took a long time to work out the Blaser barrels allmost all run most accurate with decent jump. IIRC around 0.020" min.

My 22" 7Saum barrel runs at 3005 fps with 67.5gr of 2217. A 24" 7RM should easily be able to do that surely.

21.5 any shorter and it gets harder to do the cool stuff

Chopped my T3 back to 22" and put a DPT can on, at 24" with the 162 AMax and N560 I was getting 3090 fps, after the chop and can the same load produced 3123 fps ! Not what I was expecting, grouping improved too.

Only other factor that I thought might have influenced this was velocity measured at 24" was at the NZDA range in Upper Hutt, at 22" at the NZDA range Christchurch.

I was always told speed isnt everything. Seems like everyone want to be up @3000fps

Speed certainly isn't everything, great consistency in accuracy should always be the primary objective, but if you can get near max possible velocity (for your cartridge/rifle package) while keeping that great accuracy then why would you not want the extra advantage from reduced windage and more terminal energy etc/extended useful range?

With suppressing a super short 7mm Rem Mag you need to be wary of the pressure at the muzzle and the effect that will have on the suppressor.
last thing you want to do is wreck your suppressor

Has anyone run factory ammo through shortened 7mm Rem Mags? And if so, what performance are you getting and how is it to shoot?

Dunno about factory ammo but with reloads plenty of people are still getting a 162 at 2950 - 3000fps out of a 20” barrel. I’m intending to chop mine from 24 down to 21 next year.

Seems like you end up simular to a 284 performance with a ton more powder?
