@superdiver I run exactly the same setup as Monk, the 178s have been fine from 50 metres all the way out to 500 on deer.

I am running 280Rem/ 150geldx @2850 in Browning A Bolt 22 inch. Killed 4 deer. One Fallow at 200 and two Sika 330m and 445m. And a red hind at 345m all projectiles performed very well- fist sized exit if boiler room hit- if i do my part. Moving to 162g just to try deal with wind a bit more and extra insurance for punch at 400 to 500.
Will AI the shooter for some extra velocity- as i had been toying with changing to Rem mag- but now wont for the reasons others have mentioned- especially because 280 and AI will do all i need + more out to 500 which is my limit.
If i was to try shoting past 500 then probably 7mmrm is a better choice- but with 500 being my limit- 280 does all for me.
Also my bush pig is 7mm08 so possible projectile commonality is handy for sure.

With 7mmrm and bigger- guys using 208g eldx etc- how has performance on deer been inside 600? Woulda thought these may have expansion trouble being heavier maybe punch thru more often than the 160-170s?
Past 500 to 600 they probably work more as designed?? but inside 500 to 600 are the 208s "too much" projectile on NZ deer?

@superdiver 63 gr RE17 with 178 ELDx 2860 FPS .2215 inch to ogive. Norma brass, Fed match Large magnum primer. Fits in mag and shoots 1/4 inch

I'm having to drop down a grain as I'm having pressure issues. Start at 62 gr. Max is 64gr in the Hornady book.

@ANTSMAN - the move to AI might only get you ~40 -50 fps more especially with 22in tube, not saying dont do it, just dont set your hope too high. My 24in 280AI get me 2980 fps with N560 and the old 162AMAXs. That gets me ~875 yards before hitting 1800 fps which is what is use as a default limit for how far to push it. With 22in tube you should be north of 2900 fps

The barrel length will be the issue. My Ackley drives a 150 LRAB at 3130 but this is a 26" bbl. Sure kills well.

I have a 24" tikka 7mm RM thats pushing the 162 amax at 3080fps and have just been trying to work up a load for a newly acquired tikka 284 win 19" barrel was really hoping to use the 150 LRAB but it seems it didn't like them at all as the groups were terrible like 2-3" also tried the 162 amax 53g of rl16 at 2680fps and was sitting at about 1 moa so needs a bit of tweaking also found the barrel was touching the stock so ill fix that and try again

Ive a 284 and am running the Amax under 53g RL16 and it is shooting well. You might do well to get the stock sorted.

I've just measured my loaded rounds on new Winchester brass, .313 (havnt been turned)

The 284 doesnt like tight neck clearances at all, you'll need a min of 2 thou, some even recommend out to 4 thou clearance.

My Petersen brass is 0.3165" loaded with a 0.314" bushing giving me just over 0.002" neck tension. Not turned
