    7x57 users out there

Im keen on a getting this calibre as an all rounder Ive done some research and it appears to be mildly better than a 6.5x55 and I am looking for first hand experience advice also like the look of the 260 rem as well really Im looking for something a little different than the standard calibres Ive hunted with 308 and 7mm rem mag before and probably will get another 7mm mag again Ive been out of the game for a while and need a little advice also who makes the good shit these days as far as rifles and scopes I have no worries about dropping the cash on quality and was looking at a Remington sendero or mannlicher pro hunter not sure what cals there available in though

    cheers

You couldnt get two more different rifles if you tried. The sendero is a heavy barreled made to be shot prone long range weapon. The mannlicher is a slick light fast handling carry for days on end type rifle. It all depends on what you want from a rifle. As for caliber all those mentioned are fine killers though my pick would be the 260. Look at the kimbers very light well made rifles and chambered in different calibers such as 280 and 260 ect.

7x57 and 7mm08 are very similar in performance, the 7mm08 fits in a short action where as the 7x57 needs a med or long action.
hence why the 7mm08 is so popular and the 7x57 is so hard to find store baught ammo for

260s are a prick to find except in tikka's there is a ruger on trademe but I personally dislike rugers.
I baught a 243 kimber to make into a 260 but have changed my mind as I enjoy it way too much as a 243.

If you want great performance, accuraccy, lightweight and affordability look into stainless synthetic tikkas in what ever caliber you want. and sink your extra money into high end optics
that way it will be portable and usable for hunting no matter what optic you put on it
and cause they are cheep and dime a dozen it dosent matter if you scratch it

If this is to be your only rifle 7RM may not be the optimal caliber to cater for all hunting suituations and your point of wanting something different, - for that I got myself a 7mm08 tikka and reamed it out to 280rem(in hind site should have gone AI but meh)

Ther are plenty of the savages in 260 and if you want more horsepower go 6.5-284 in savage.
the savage is one of the few factory rifles that rival the tikka on out of the box accuracy weight and value for money
My favorite sentences i like to hear are - I suppose so. and Send It!

Most factory rifles equal the Tikka nowadays, Tikkas are greatly overated and costly compared to say Savage, Howa, Weatherby and so on

I didn't realise it was so close to 7mm08 and the short action just killed the whole idea of going for the 7x57 I was looking for an all rounder not everybody has so maybe the 260 AI

All Tikka T3's are long action anyway. 7x57 has a lot of history and I think it is cool. Buy a T3 in 7mm08 and get it reamed to 7x57...

no can do. too much case taper in the x57 case, you would have to set it so far back it would be rediculas.
and why? harder to get bullets and less choices in brass manufacture if you do decide to reload. for what gain?

just grab that 280AI of Kiwi gregs and get it out of my site before i do something stupid like buying it

best thing to do is sit down with a ballistic calculator and decide what projectile you want to fire, then at what speed you want to push it.
after that the decision becomes incredibly easy, factor in recoil and your end product will be in site
