Thread: 9mm Luger bolt gun project

Hey fullas,

Got abit of a project on the go at the moment! I thought some of you may be interested in the build.

It’s going to be a 9mm Luger bolt gun built on a Marshal Precision action with a 11-12” true Flite barrel. I plan on running the 147gr hornady xtp projectiles as they look like they will open up at lowsh velocity making it a super cheap and deadly rifle to shoot and super quiet.

I’m using a dpt muzzle forward suppressor also to keep it quiet, Ken Henderson carbon stock and will be putting a red dot on top as it will not be used past 100m or so.

Initial thoughts on the action is that it’s a pretty sweet action, bolt is pretty slick and it’s a rem 700 footprint.

I’m still waiting on a chamber reamer to get the job underway but stay posted!!

Funnily enough I had a similar idea.

Being that I don't have a 22 and 9mm is cheaper to reload than 22 it would be pretty neat.

Should be fun! The 147 should have abit more punch behind it than a 22 also

What's the go with the magazine and bottom metal?

Ive been playing with the idea of a 45ACP rifle. Just like this. Lookin good mate. Keep us updated.

That’s marshal precision’s design, I would have preferred a pistol mag on a a custom
Bottom metal but may be issues later on down the track with being able to use high capacity mags on it so I can see why he’s gone down that track

I could do a de lisle style version in say....... 9mm or 357 maximum

I have photos somewhere of a 9mm SMLE, new bolt head machined up by a gunsmith and a barrel blank from brownells. much cheaper than a marshall precision.

That looks very cool, I'm keen to see a range report when your finished.

Done a .45ACP on a jw103 still fiddling with getting the extract to be reliable. Shoots 240grn hornady .452 around the 1200fps BUT kind of stuffs the cases or 200grn leads @ 800fps. Need some Rowland brass.

Well today was the day I finished the build, came out pretty sweet and feeds mean. Shame the weather is so crappy can’t get out and test it but I did shoot a few rounds through it and it was pretty quiet so should be able to tune the loads down with the 147s
