    advice on buying

    Tikka T3 6.5-284 | Trade Me

hi this rifle has the factory tikka t3 barrel assume it was a 6.5 x55 orignaly, do you think this is a good buy or should i wait for something with a costom barrel to come along for sale (looking for a hunting, 284)

However many here will "slam" me and probably you for this comment, if you don't want a 6.5x55 just get the 7-08, it is your "284" caliber ready to go with no hassle.
Just my opinion, then, if you looking for something a bit more "refine or custom" wait for the right opportunity or buy one new made to your "needs/likes"

    Good luck.

By the way, 6.5x284 is an awesome caliber too, even better for those who reload for it.

I personally think that is overpriced.

Yep if you are going to reload that is a fine calibre...if not I have set up 3 T3's in 7mm08 and all are 0.5MOA or better. Resale will be easier with a standard calibre too.

Hi I have the same rifle but with a 20" fluted barrel but are wishing it had a 22" I guess you need to look at new price as a lot of places will do you a 6.5x55 at $1100 then it is just a simple rechamber which won't cost a lot.
I paid $1500 for mine with suppressor and dies as well as fluted bolt and barrel. So i will let you decide if it is a good buy or not, if I did it again I would prob get a .260 and leave barrel at 22" as there is not a lot of difference between the two for the extra 10 grains of powder used.

yea im thinking i mite just get a 6.5x55 tikka but know il regret not haveing that extra fps after a while,am going to start reloading and want something i can shoot a bit futher with and seems like 6.5mm 130-140 grain bullet have the best weight/BC for deer/pigs, if i go to 7mm to something like 7mm wsm then im going to a 168grain bullet to get the same bc and dont really plan on trying to shoot that far

Yea 130 and 140 in 6.5 are good but my 6.5/284 are only getting 2800fps with 130grn so almost the same as a good .260 with 22" barrel with less recoil and less noise.

if at some point you feel that 6.5x55 doesn't cut it its just as easy to rechamber to 6.5/06 to get the same performance as the 6.5x284 personally nothing wrong with the 55 it will serve you well for many years and still kills deer dead.
