Thread: Advice for a new scope for my safe Queen...

Hi Guys,

I'm currently wrestling for options for a Target / Tops new scope to place atop my 7mm Rem Mag safe Queen.

With buying a bush gun a AAC 300 Blackout (when they arrive in January) I hope my close up and roar stuff will be sorted and i'm gonna put my current Leupold CDS 3-9x40 atop that and this then clears the way for me to utilize the big girl as a long range / target and tops gun for some missions next year.

Currently I'm looking very closely at the Sightrons (S3 8-32x56 and S3 6-24x50) as they seem to be from a couple of suppliers in NZ around that magic $1500 mark that seems really good value. Have looked at buying online but tend to run into issues with the export controls out of the States. I'm also looking to throw a rail atop and would be interested in the best rings to use. I've currently got a set of mid Warne's but that will obviously likely change with the height change

I've also had on my target 22 a Vortex crossfire 2 6-20 which is extremely good to use and I love the magnification for indoor use. Did look at the vorex razor but looked a little pricey in NZ.

Any other suggestions? (he say's ducking for cover!!!)

Cool I am looking for the same thing, so far I have spent the week researching and not getting very far, seems these days no one is doing real reviews any more.

The sightron's pricing seems fairly keen and the ones I have seen/used were pretty good. I like the mil/mil.

I like the size and the low to high range, 50mm seems well big enough but as an optic the reviews dont seem quite so hot.

Leopold has a new scope VX6 but that is close to $2kUS and just wee bit too much for me.

On my 7mm rem mag I used a Leupold VIII 4.5-14x40 LR. Shot out to 630yds with it no problems. Two friends have weaver grandslam 4.5-14 x 40 on their 7mm mags. I wouldn't get the 8-32x, but the 6-24x would be good.

Mind you its getting pretty hard to sieve the shit from the clay when you go out and do reviews especially when they don't reveal who and where their allegiances are - makes it bloody hard - hence I thought I'd ask the GC's on this site.

Stug - as always good advice - of the two I was looking the same way as the bigger one just seemed like overkill and heavier to lug into the southern Alps hopefully next year it was really in there in case I just became a desk riding paper puncher!!!

Nice notes about the Weaver Grandslam and Leupold. I'm sorry but I feel Leupolds losing its way a bit in its newer items (and Price point for what you get) Although I know in a lot of shooters dependability as a component of the mind game can be really important.

I would recommend the sightron s3. Just get the 6-24 you wont need amymore then that.

Good glass too and cheap enough to buy in nz. ded stocks them. Have one on my 338rum

got a sightron s3 6-24 as well, dialled up and down all around on the weekend about 40 ish times and still tracking true. if you want i can send u some pics

Pay to check in China. Bearing in mind that almost all scopes are contracted out to Chinese firms. You can get knockoffs or the genuine article. The big plus is that there are no hassles with customs and no duty unless the item is over $400 bucks. From what i can see there are a few options with illum, FFP and different reticles too... Any stand out as better or equally don't go there options?

I have the MOA and find it useful especially for correcting windage

This will come in under 1500 might have a little more gst to pay but...

I'd have to wonder on why the "real thing" is >$1000 and this is $61US, I have difficulty believing it.
