Advice: strange call from a logistics company after AliExpress delivery

    Righto Gents,

I have just had a call from a freight company after I had a few things delivered yesterday from AliExpress, the items in question are as follows:

    1 Mlok QD sling mount
    2 chamber flags
1 sling adaptor (basically a round piece of webbing with a metal D loop.

The guy seemed in a bit if a panic as it turns out that they released these prior to the customs check and are now asking me to send them back to him so they can be checked by customs. The strange thing is this came from a random mobile, outside of normal working hours and he also asked if he could "meet at my address to speak in person" which I politely declined.

I have asked for an email from both the company and customs showing exactly what is needed as this made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

I'm sure this hasn't happened to anyone else but was looking for advice on what is the best course of action moving forward.

As far as I am aware the items I ordered are not restricted and could easily be used on an airsoft gun vs a rifle. Have I missed something here?

    Cheers all.

Seems very suspicious to me. Wait to see if anything from customs comes through and then I’d make contact with them directly and an official customs officer would be able to link it all together if it’s legit

Cheers mate, yeah I will wait to see what comes through as I have given my email details and will most likely call the customs office tomorrow just to make sure. Bizzare though!

I'd just go dark. If real actual officials need to discuss stuff with you I am sure they will make contact.

It's a drug importation ring that's contacted you.
Their 'plant' at NZ Customs was sick that day so your parcel went through...and they want their drugs back.
Grap a hacksaw and cut all your items in half - they are probably loaded with meth/P.

i used to work in the air frieght biz and theres no way stuff would get released if it needed customs clearence.
they could lose thier charter, and stuff like that had a triple paper trail with paYments either end and depending on the overall valiue duty and gst

Seems dodgy. Personally I'd contact an arms officer and have them confirm as worst case you lose a few bits bit if this is something more malicious they can attempt to catch them out as I doubt your the first and it would have to be a dodgy customs agent to know that you ordered anything rifle adjacent.

That seems dodgy as. Like others have said if needed clearance would have been done. Got to the police station and lodge a record or complaint. With firearms meeting at your house seems very bizarre. I'd ask where abouts they are located so you can being then the items. Or best say that's fine you can come to my work and check .auckland police station.

Often with aliexpress your phone number shows on the packing slip. Sounds very suspicious, I would guarantee that is fake. I would double make sure everything is locked up the next little while!

Hi Team, I have called customs and they are unaware of anything related to the package, and they were also super helpful on the phone. Although that has settled that it wasn't a customs matter, it makes me slightly more unsettled regarding the call. I will call the freight company in question tomorrow during business hours and hopefully it's genuine and some sort of mix up on their end.

This isn't a bad idea! I think I will make a call and lodge a complaint, I have both numbers and recorded the calls ony phone.

Things like this are the reason I never answer a call I don't recognise.

Given the nature of the call you might not be far off. But I'd be checking the packaging, years of watching Border Force on tv have taught me that's where they like to hide stuff on smaller packages

Haha...true I might not be far off.
We will find out if I'm right when the OP suddenly puts up a really long post depicting the multitudinous thoughts and feelings passing through his mind in a hyper-manic 'P' way.
