    The shorter you go the larger the bore crudely put. Basically the larger the bullet base you have to push on the less you lose from a shorter barrel.
    I'm a 35 Cal fan. My 358win I consider to be good to 300 mtr with a Sierra GK 225gr, I'm under book max loads, (cant see how they get it all in) for around >2400 fps.
    If I'm expecting smaller deer goats in Bush I load it with 158gr HP pistol bullets at 1650fps.
    Would love a 35 Whelen, punching a 225gr GK or Nosler at 2800, thats scrub bull medicine,
