Just realised that I can't buy a AICS 223 10shot magazine from overseas due to the number of shots allowed in it for a A-cat license (7 max). Does anyone know of alternative choices with less shots? It will be going into my tikka t3 with new atlasworx bottom metal? Any way to get around this?

The magazine size limit only applies to semi-autos. In a bolt-gun, it's not an issue.

I sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong but last time (beginning of last year) talking to my AO he said I would to prove that it was for a bolt and not semi and get it past customs without issues.
How would I go about proving that? Take the rifle to the AO?

Talk to your arms officer in advance, and ask for a permit. According to police policy you don’t need a permit but if your Ao is generous it could save time stuffing around once it arrives in the country.
Ive going to meet the arms officer tomorrow as customs have caught a few of my packages containing a few 30rd Ar mags, 10rd AR mags and Bx25 mags along with some chokes and cleaning supplies.
I don’t own any semi-autos that the mags will work in, they will be used in a Mossberg MVP (bolt action) and ruger American rim fire (bolt action) both intended for recriational shooting.
Not only does the AO seem interested in confirming that I own those bolt action rifles but also that I “need” the quantity that I have ordered, as he wont let them in if he suspects I intend to on sell them.
Of course if your only importing one 10rd magazine you are a lot less likely to have any issues, and it might even sneak past customs unnoticed.
I will update with my experience tomorrow.

He had a permit, as he brought a custom action at the same time.
Had to get both thing's on the permit and pay a 250USD export fee for both parts.
Yip. No problems getting hi cap PMagss or 9mm AR mags recently. Obviously you need an import permit at this end as customs will stop them. Biggest issue is making sure the manufacturer is approved for export.Quote:

Basically. They email you a couple of forms that have to be filled in and posted back to them with the exporters copy of your NZ Import permit. Brownells then submit them to the US State dept who then issue an export permit. Takes about 4 weeks from the time you mail back the paperwork. Just make sure what you are ordering is approved for export before getting an import permit. Usually getting the NZ import permit takes the most time.Quote:
