The all rounder that may never be

It's been eleven years since the introduction of the 300wsm and next to the 270, in my opinion is the best all-round rifle about, when you favour bigger game e.g. Sambar. However I am baffled that there still is no 338wsm. To me it seems like the ultimate Caliber big enough for buff in aus and a good caliber for bears, wapiti and moose in the US minus a mule kicking shit out of your shoulder every shot. I'm in the process of Compartmentalizing my rifles my 270 for fallow, hog (if I can ever find one), and chital. My soon to be here 300wm for sambar and reds and next years project foe varmints which I think I've decided on a 243 ( thanks to everyones input in that thread). But if there was a 338wsm there'd by no question it'd be my big boy.
What's everyone think about the 338wsm? Is there talk of it? Would it be good? And why isn't it here!?!

There is a 338wsm out there but its a wildcat at this stage. Not as fast as a .338 edge so I doubt it will take off.

There is talk of Winchester developing a commercial cartridge soonish.

The all rounder that may never be

Build one jack, order a reamer from PT&G, get Grant @ Trueflite to make you a new barrel, and have some fun.

Sounds like a great sambar hammer.

That's a mean looking cartridge tm2! What projectile you got in there mate?

7mm - I've never even heard of anyone builidng rifles here, wouldn't be surprised if we're not allowed to but would be a killer project!

338WSM is a wildcat and I want one (Abe!). It has the unfortunate name in the US as the 338Redneck

    Yeah I wonder?
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

I have been playing with a 338 WSM Imp for a couple of years. It drives a 250 gr @ 2850 safely.

Nothing harsh about it. You are a redneck due to location and happen to sport a morange head.
Think of it this way, it could be worth more if its genuine
What speeds did you get from your one out of interest? I reckon big cals like that are for people that cant shoot 6.5-7mm well at range and in any wind

Bit undergunned with a 458 isn't he? haha I know a bloke who genuinely considered a 416 rigby for sambar and fallow. Needless to say he's not the most intelligent bloke you'd come across.

in all honesty it would work, besides all that recoil might wake up a few dormant braincells
