    Allow mounts for 1" scope

    Hiya.

I'm finishing off a Sako 85 243 with a carbon stock, apparently it's pointless putting steel tikka optilocks on it when I'm trying to create an ultra light bush hunting rifle. I have been recommended to go for Alloy ones?

Can anyone suggest a make and model that would be suitable? I have a Swaro Z5 to put on it. And a link to purchase these would be helpful, I'm struggling to find anything.

    Cheers!

Leupold medium Sako mounts. Reloaders have them. Excellent scope rings that have never let me down on a variety of Sako rifles. The low is too low and just clears a 36mm objective.

Don't think there are many choices with alloy mounts and Sako tapered dovetails. Warne used to make a light weight 1 piece set, that I have, but I don't see them on their website anymore??

IMHO Optilocks are way too heavy let alone overly expensive. You may only save a couple of ounces with Leupold's but it all adds up. Retailers love to chime, "Optilocks, Optilocks" like a cuckoo clock on steroids. What most really want is your hard earned spondoolies.

The Optilocks ringmounts do have the plastic inserts that save having to lap the rings which is a plus - just be careful slipping the inserts over the scope tube as they break fairly easily. Also you can chuck away the pin that resides in the rear mount (doesn't accomplish anything because of the tapered grooves on the Sako action) and slide the rear mount forward a little if necessary.

Scope moves forward with recoil, tapered dovetail eliminates this.
