Just because shops do no have them does not mean they should not, and posting photos of bores of rifles bought online would make a big difference I suspect. Second hand rifles might start going for what they are actually. A rifle is a barrel with a mechanism attached. We all know the mechanism can suck and it won't matter if the barrel is decent, but a shot barrel is fliers and Mr Murphy says they occur when the shot of a lifetime is on.

I too have had some horror barrels from online purchases and would only buy a second rifle if I could see down the tube. I will still buy a pitted barrel but I would expect the price to reflect the state.
The thing is a decent bore scope is plenty $$$

The Digital ones a crap compared to a Hawkeye bore scope & they are delicate.

The other problem is they will show you a whole lot of stuff you really don't need to know.

You really need to know what you are looking for & at, which usually means there needs to be a problem first before you try to diagnose it.

It only matters how it shoots, not what it looks like.

I have heard of several rifles with throats 6+ inches long that still shoot great, most likely the exception rather than the rule to be fair, but if you looked into one with a bore scope the barrel would be off the action, in the garden & holding up tomatoes before you even got the bore scope out of it

Could be a bit like electric motor vibration analysis. Always laugh when the genius can't state a fault and suggests May be broken rotor bars. One of the most unquantifiable comments in the world . Bit like finding a skeleton and saying I reckon he could be a goner lol
The guys would just do themselves so many more favours by saying something has changed. I have no idea what but something has changed.

@Grunta have you or are you going to post back for him to look at and come up with a remedy?? Have tried to read it and be as nuetral as possible and to me sounds he has the upper hand at mo by asking it back to view?? From there it needs to be sent back to you as described or that may be where refund comes in. Forget who pays freight. Chalk it up as a nite at the pub. It may end up being the camel breaking the straw (yes I know it's the other way round)

Just my 2 cents, easting time and money through small claims mate, failing that Tahr looked like he had a gd offer

But why should Tahr get shafted?

There is nothing on this forum anywhere to suggest he will stand by his work or word?

Nah I would have just taken it as it is and screw something new into it. I figured the action and stock are worth $500 and hoped it might have fixed the problem for both of them.

I'm not sure many people on here will deal with Mack's guns anymore.

Its not worth the risk regardless.

Plenty of lost trades over $695. Was it worth it. Probably not.

Its sad, but no one wins in this saga.

@HNTMAD Fair comments and I appreciate it. I always like looking at other people's thoughts and views on things.

Yup I could just send it and tick it up as a night out but I seem to have trust issues with Andrew - and rightfully so. If he's not prepared to answer his ph to discuss it or pay the $30 courier fee which legally he has to , or even give me an address either, then I'm not sure what else I could do to try and make this situation work?

Bruces offer was kind, but Andrew ultimately had to agree to sell it to him for $500 but still refund the original purchase price. But As VC says, I'm relying on someone who doesn't know how to answer a phone.

I have said it publicly on here already and I'll say it again - the action is in good condition and would be great for a re barrel jobby. Sportirised mausers have no value really. Im a fan of them myself and have owned a few, but theyre not everyone's cup of tea. Speaking of tea. It's time to brew one up and catch up on coronation st.

This makes me sad. From what I have read and can see the Barrel is poked... properly poked so as far as "Deep and Sharp Rifling" goes, that ain't it!

What's really sad is that this has cost him in potential clients and future earnings but the best lessons are often the most painful.

    Thanks for the warning.
