    Another Import Question...

    Hi Fellas,

What's the guts on import issues regarding bolt and bolt parts?

If I was to order something from PT&G like a one piece bolt and or bottom metal would I need an import license?

Only if it's not for an A category weapon, or if it will fit something that's not A. Although usually if it's a multi-fit item you just need to show you have the A-cat version, or get your AO to give Customs a call. That's assuming they hold it and ask in the first place.

So do you just go ahead and order the parts and if customs pulls it up, worry about permits and stuff then?

You don't need a permit for A-cat parts except for the action, or if the part will also fit a weapon that's not A-cat and NZ Customs are being pedantic. If it only fits a bolt action weapon then there is no problem and no requirement for a permit from this end, but you may require Export Permits or Exemption Documents etc for the exporting country.

Sweet. Thanks for clearing that up.. so you are saying trigger and bolt are fine unless you order an action as a whole part?

Also you cannot have an import permit granted retrospectively.
