    Another scope recommendation thread!

    Gday!

I'm in the process of setting up a 7m RM, I head down to the south island for a few times a year for tahr etc. Keen for a decent setup.

The mrs is in the states for 2.5 weeks, means I can get her to bring back a scope. Was looking at the Vortex PST 4-16x50 MOA. I don't really want to be spending more than say $700/800USD. Any other options I should be considering?

    THanks for your help

Vortex glass is not too great when it counts in my opinion. What can you get over there for that coin by Leupold?

I own both the 6500 and the Superslam. The Bushnell wins hands down - very good all rounder IMO.

Can often over dial but once you sort that out, very reliable. Have shot steel a long way out using mine.

just bought myself a Zeiss hd5 3-15x42 with turrets for my new 7mmremmag , looks like plenty of people have bought vortex scopes and after a while upgraded to a zeiss hd5 for the better glass. I decided just to pony up and skip a step.

Depends which Vortex line you go for.. People seem to grab the PST for some reason over the likes of the HS-T or HS-LR. I have compared my HS-LR next to a PST and they were a completely different class optically. HS-LR was lightyears ahead.. Also very nice to use in low light.

That said, Zeiss or Leupy isn't a dumb idea either..

Mine was HS - not even close to zeiss at last light. Its the same old debate though to be fair.

HS-T and PST are/or a least were the same glass, Wire vs etched reticle. They are all the Viper series, the HS-LR included.
My last light experience mirrors Gibos with my HS-T.

For their price you get a lot of features on the Viper range. The first/last light performance has been the only slight compromise in my opinion, everything else has been terrific for the price point.

    Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40mm Side Focus Riflescope 170702 |

Have a look down the right hand side at the options there... CDS for 600ish.

Dont try and use a NZ card with them though as they wont process the order unless its going to NZ... been there done that. They'll just say it's going to be shipped out by you and so it's not allowed under their terms and conditions.

Reckon the Leupold is a good choice, pretty light, good warranty, decent glass, dials well and good resale value..... If you are worried about light then go the 50mm objective

    Good luck mate.

I bought and returned a vx3i last week. my 6 year old conquest (bog standard) was a much better scope, that's in overcast conditions so not even last light.
