    Factory ammo is mildly loaded due to all the older weaker actions out there chambered in the caliber.

    Good rifle in a great calibre. If you like the 708 you will love the 6.5.

    I regret selling mine, and will own another one when funds allow.

    @Kiwiman

    As mentioned above the 6.5x55 is a Reloaders dream to get both speed and accuracy.

    It's also a very flat shooting caliber too.

    If your a Reloader my mates load in his Tikka is 49.5grs of Vitivori N560 powder with 140gr Amax's seated 80thou off the lands with MV of about 2800fps.

    Very accurate and easily smashes Red Deer out to about 600m

    But remember this load is for someone else's rifle so start lower in your rifle and work up looking for any signs of pressure.

    Let us know how you get on.

    Cheers

    To be fair they made the amax for a good many years.

    Depends on the brand of ammo. Some of the European brands of ammo load their 6.5x55 for modern rifles as it is a popular cartridge there. American stuff tends to be loaded lighter as they dont use the modern rifles in that calibre and most of the 6.5s there are older. But I would also agree that reloading allows for more out of this calibre but that is no different from almost every other calibre.
