am currently waiting on a Vortex spotting scope(Viper HD 20-60x80mm) in the mail I order from the US. cant wait to get it.

I've got a Viper HS LR 4-16x44 on my 223. Optics are nice and clear (at least in my limited exposure to nicer glass), adjustments seem correct and repeatable. It's taken a few decent knocks and still held a solid zero. All-in-all I'm very happy with it.
I'm very happy with my FFP 4-16 PST
Had a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 Rimfire
Still don't know why I sold it. It was THE best rimfire scope I've come across.
Ordering at least one next time I'm feeling wealthy.

The bells and whistles are good on the pst range and repeatable turret adjustment. Glass is poor imo though.
Lined my Viper HS LR up next to a Viper PST the other week, and with 4 people present who had a good look through both, all agreed that the glass in my HS was vastly better than the PST optics. I would agree with you that the PST glass was fairly poor, but I find my HS glass very crisp and clear. I found that interesting, considering they're both supposedly about the same spec level.Quote:

The glass on my PST seems fine. I'm not really a glass whore though.
Once you start shooting through good glass it becomes hard to use anything that isnt up to that standard. It will hit you in the pocket hard if you are not careful!
I have HD viper binos which i was happy with untill i lined them up against bushnell EDs. EDs a touch clearer at half the price, oh well. I was going to get a Viper pst and spotter when we go to NY in june but not so sure now.

I have a Viper PST 6-24 FFP and a Solo R/T 8x36, both really good units, great value. I know a few people who have the Razor HD spotting scope, and I am thinking about getting one myself. It may not be the best glass on the market, but I am a big Vortex fan
A mate has one. I keep hearing all this rave about it, but after seeing it in action. Whatever. I WON'T be buying.

I got a vortex diamondback 4x10x40mm for my 308 and love it. Nice n light, easy to work and built to last. Also they come with a no questions asked lifetime warranty which is hard to beat.

I have the 2-7 Diamondback on my Vepr, was going to get the Viper PST 1-4 on my AR.
Not so sure now, might look at getting the Viper HS 1-4 or a Burris 1-4 now.
Vortex vs Leupold? Anyone compared them?
got a viper HS, optics are brilliant and turrets are amazballs, was cheaper than the equivilent VX3.
I have Leupold binos (now discontinued tactical model), and a mate has a couple of older leupold rifle scopes (VX-1 and VX-3, before the glass got shit). I would say the glass in my scope/ monocular is at least as good as those 3 optics, if not better. The scope is cheaper, and more full featured, to go along with better turrets, zerostop, pretty much better in every single way. The new Mark6 and Mark 8 scopes probably compete well enough, but if I were choosing, it would be Vortex every dayQuote:

Although unscientific & highly subjective, I compared a friends Vortex 4-16x50 PST (30mm tube) with a S&B 4-16x50 (34mm tube) as the dusk fell tonight.
The Vortex fell short if the Schmidt Bender by 8 minutes of what I felt was enough light to comfortable identify and make a safe shot at a hypothetical deer in the hedge row opposite ours (roughly 250m, without the illumination, about 6/8th cloud cover, both set on 8x).
I agree as others have pointed out that Vortex offer good features for their price.
Both of the above scopes are very similar, but I make that an extra $361USD per minute between them.
I recently bought a Viper HST and it has met my expectations so far, time will tell whether there are any drawbacks.
One thing that did stand out was that the illumination on the vortex doesn't compare to the German one.
A lot of my Yank mates think they're the tits. I might venture recommending waiting until the II series comes out. I think release is very soon on these, surefire and sparc.
Got a Vortex SPARC red dot on my chinky AK-47, bought off a forum member, worked great on sunday sighting it in at the deerstalkers range.....thumbs up......
My Viper HS 4 x 16 is all good.
I have a viper 4-16x50 on my 300wsm. Its a great scope. I had a leupold vx3 on it but wanted adjustable turrets with zero stop. I have shot out to 600yds with it easily. I also bought the vortex rangefinder its really good too. Furtherest reading i have had was a rock at 1020yds. Ranges deer at 700 plus yds easy enough
