Thread: AR A to E Cat - Seems to be taking a while.

Anybody else currently changing a A cat AR over to E cat? I submitted the forms to the local AO around the 10th Dec and not had it approved, local AO says she is waiting for a response from Wellington.

I know it has been Christmas and the new year but how long has it taken for other people?


Anyone got an E cat lower to sell, might be quicker at this rate

I applied last week to have two lowers registered as E cat ,was told paperwork needs go to police headquarters in Wellington for decision ,which may take up to ×4weeks.
Have done this process several times in the past and approval has been on the spot or on that day ....Damn red tape getting in way of everything these days....

More waiting, left me know when yours get approved as mines taken over 4 working weeks already......

Took an A cat AR10 in to Wgtn Central and Louise put it straight onto E for me then and there - was mid Dec from memory
Got a phone call for my 6-monthly inspection Sunday yesterday and he had no record of it being added but that "isn't unusual"

I find that the best thing is to ring em up every day until you get what you want

6 monthly inspection?.......where in the law does it state that?

Have to attend club shoots 12 times a year and inspected 6 monthly

He asks me each time how many A-cats I have and I say 1
He writes down 10
We laugh..

i applied early decem, said needed wellinton's approval. a month later call arm,s office, next day some ao from other town( palmaston ?) approved it for me. guess wellington over loaded.

AO could have approved that in the time to process relaying it to and from Wellington.

The centralised processing of these permits has no real benefits on the face of it, It just facilitates faceless passive aggression in the form of deliberate delays and arbitrary interpretations of law.

Applied for one towards the end of November still nothing

I've applied for several permits early December ... thought this new system in place ,was to ensure got processed faster

fixed it for ya, Kinda like trying to renew your firearms licence eh @Pengy

I swappeded an A to E the week before xmas, happened on the spot - AO didnt have to sent forms upstairs or anything. Did an E to A at the same time.

Ah, so you did not in effect apply to enlarge your dangerous E-cat arsenal.

I sent the forms and took a rifle in to be inspected end of Nov. It actually initiated the security inspection for the new house, only after waiting 2 years. Haven’t heard anything about the actual rifle. I’m using it on the 2nd Feb for the Good Morning Vietnam shoot!

And speak of the devil, email just came through saying I need to take the converted to MSSA rifle to be inspected again before 11 Feb. I’ve never had to do that before.
