Yeah it's all a bit unknown because the rule says you have grace till June for the pistol grip part but doesn't say anything about magazines.

There is nothing un-known about it. It has been the law since 1992 that you must have an endorsement specific to that semi-automatic rifle to use magazines with a capacity of more than 7 rounds (15 if .22). Nothing has changed there and to think that some grey period was created between 12/2013 and 06/2014 where the rules can be ignored is just wishful thinking on any bodies part!

Also be aware that if you have a semi-automatic rifle with a freestanding pistol grip it is a now a M.S.S.A and needs an endorsement for you to be in legal possession of it. If you currently own a rifle that prior to 10/12/2013 was considered a "sporting rifle" then you are in breach of the law. Just because the Police have said they won't prosecute until after 06/2014 doesn't mean that what you're doing isn't illegal. They can overlook that promise at any time they like as it has no legal standing in court.

Say you're out hunting with your AR-15 and a member of the public takes offense and calls the police, what you were doing may have been perfectly legal and if you had the correct stock the police would have had nothing on you. But if you still have your old pistol grip, then suddenly they have a charge of un-lawful possession of a M.S.S.A they can hit you with and it would stick in court!
