AR15 Mags - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

    Hey guys,

I have just completed my first AR15 Build in 300blk, and am now on the hunt for 5-7round Mags.
Obviously there are a few options out there.

    Just wanted everyone's opinions / experiences on;
    A) What Worked (The Good)?
    B) What Didn't (The Bad)?
    C) What Broke (The Ugly)?

    Thanks in advance!

Curious as well, how much difference does a label / cost make?

Zahal sells NZ compliant mags, made by E lander. They would be the best A cat mags you can buy, very high quality stainless steel. Reasonably priced and free shipping if you spend more than $95.

Spear mags work ok for me.

I got an ASC A cat mag with my NEA when I bought it, and found I couldn't fit more than 4 rounds in it. Pulling it apart, I found a 20 rd spring compressed inside with a few coils bent to proper spec to serve as the spring part. The rest served as a block.

Mine also doesn't hold the bolt open , the BCG skates over the top of the follower.

My e lander mag works fine. Needs an oil though to prevent rust.

My arms stoner mag bond doesn't work. But feeds fine.

SpearMags are similar in price to the E-Lander, so good to hear these work.
I have heard of some polymer mags cracking or breaking!

I took my NEA to the shop to buy mags and found as I had previously suspected that some spear mags fitted ok and some were tight and awkward to get out.

The clear ones seem to be a bit skinnier than the black ones. If possible take your rifle or (just the lower half of it) and test the fit.

Not sure if this is just a spear mags thing , or whether matching mags to magwells is a common problem. They should be tight enough not to rattle, but loose enough to drop free under their own weight when empty IMHO.
