Thread: ATN night scopes opinions please

hi guys ,there seem to be a few ATN night vision scopes available at the mo , are they any good ,opinions either way would be great. i have a pulsar hd38 thermal viewer which is awesome for finding animals but as soon as we flick the light on they are off . before you jump up and down about spotlighting i have access to a few private farms that have rabbit and hare problems and night shooting seems to work at them .. cheers sig

ATN x-sight one and 2 are good but heavy and chew thru batteries but very good otherwise. I have repaired a few and usually its s--t quality sd cards that are stuck inside and cheap batteries corroding out.
ATN 4K x-sight have far better battery life, only repaired one and didnt really play with it too much

The ATN is Military grade is that correct - made solid - albeit getting rather ancient I imagine ?
No - I was surprised at the release price of the above NV Pulsar Digex N455 - was expsecting 1K more

i wouldnt say the ATN is military grade, i dont know of any military that uses one either.
but it has allot of trick features such as gps logging position and recording when you shoot so if a ranger accuses you of poaching you have video evidence of where the deer etc was taken.
you can also link in from a smart phone by blutooth and have your hunting mate look down the scope at the same time.

Had one, too heavy for a hunting rifle. Batteries guaranteed to go flat at worst moments.... Lived on the 22 for a while videoing possum shooting

The sighting in method was quite effective with reticle.

Replaced with a hand held thermal and a Maxtorxh!

I have your one now, I run it with an external LiPo pack and it goes for ages but, yep, it’s heavy.

Spent some time reviewing ATN kit online. My conclusion from that was it seemed to be a mixed bag with enough disappointed buyers to make me think twice.

Is a bit hard to filter through bought/fake reviews online these days though however. But it was enough to make me decide that route wasn't worth it.

I was interested in the Pard units. Seem popular over in the UK, not looked through one at all though. There Chinese made and seemed to have pretty good reviews in the UK.

I see owl's got an ATN unit too, i'd expect he should give a pretty fair assessment of where they stand in the scheme of things.

I had an ATN X-sight 2. With the extra battery pack all up it was around 2kg on the rifle. Worked ok but gets old when walking around shooting, just ask @Padox.
I've since swapped it out for a Pard007.
Pros: much lighter with a more powerful IR illuminator. Handy having it running an 18650 battery, easy to carry a spare for long evenings.
Good being able to take it off the scope for day use of the rifle/ storage.
Has a red laser dot pointer, have yet to try that as a feral cat lure.....

Cons: wee bit fiddly to set up on the scope to start with.
Having an adjustable focus scope is handy, IR focusses slightly differently that "normal" light.
Not super intuitive to use but read the manual and you'll be away laughing.

good replies guys . now you have me thinking on a pard007,then i can float it around a couple of rifles,. decisions decisions ,decisions. keep at me with atn vs pard

The pard is far superior to the atn after playing with @Joe_90 1 a few times

I highly recommend looking in to the Pard 008+ - Hands down they're way better than the ATN's. Better software/interface, user friendly, clear to look through, full HD recording, compact and not a giant submarine on your rifle, 1 shot zero yada yada.
