    Baikal 12g to rifle?

Keen to pick the brains of people more intellegent than me.
I've been thinking of doing a takedown rifle for a while, thinking of picking up a used baikal for a platform as a cheapish project, are some models better than others? looks like firing pin hole needs bushed and what is the best expoxy/ retaining compound to use. Looking to do something in 6mm, no bigger than 08 case size. Extractor doesn't look too bad.

    Cheers

I've done a few of them and can tell you all the tips and tricks

    30-30
    307 Winchester
    50-70 Nitro

All vastly more accurate than required for their intended purposes

Mine is a IJ-18E, although the later model ones are better and the non ejector is the pick of the bunch.

Managed to find one with a reasonably tight action. 6mm barrel, that I plan to use, should be a fun build I can chip away at when I get sick of making a boat

The thing is too find one with a decent trigger
If the trigger is poor there's really not much you can safely do with them

I think it was your 45/60? That lead me down this rabbit hole. I figured it was best to start on something not so nice

So the cheat is.turn rifle barrel carefully until it slips in as a sleave...then use it without ejector.a thin metal rod dropped through from muzzle pops shells easily

Agreed, it's nicer than I thought, and the price makes the project a bit less daunting if I make a mistake
