Barrel length on Howa super light models

    Hey All

I’ve googled this and can’t quite find the answer I’m after. Does anyone know what barrel lengths come in the Howa super light. If it makes any difference I’m looking at a 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor.

I was after something with a slightly longer barrel and sacrificing some of the lightweight aspect of the rifle.

    TIA

Sounds like 20 inch. barrel is the longest for that model? Would you know if that length with the best projectile would shoot out to? Are we talking 200 metres 300 400?

    Yup Shaneo's on the money

I sold the 6.5cm but keep the 308 ( didn't need two ) I haven't got around to doing any load development for it as it shoots the Sako factory ammo awesome ( only doing 2620fps iirc ) & just running a HRE can n 3-9 Kahles

Both shot really well, best value light weight on the market I reckon.

This is my one, for some reason I always thought it was 14.5" but I just measured it and it's 14.75" shoots the factory superformqnce 150sst load at over 2700fps, I literally could not load anything myself that would go that good so I've just shot the factory stuff, have just picked up a few boxes of the 168eldm superformance match stuff to see how it goes. Will take it to fiordland.

Sorry forgot to mention, was originally 16" I had it shortened a bit and run dpt with 3 baffles, still takes the sting out of it and makes for a super short light wee package. Weighs 2.35kg as seen (scope on it is Vixen 2-8x32 bdc)

Mine is a 16" 308 in a Walnut stock, so a tad heavier than a CF example. Shoots very nicely, consistent 30-40mm 3 shot groups at 100m.

But it's very hold sensitive, going from free recoil on the front rest to artillery hold makes a small difference, a proper grip on the foreend with hand supported by the front rest was most consistent for me. I tried the "hand on scope" hold and it moved the point of impact by a good 90-100mm. You'd want a fair bit of practise with it before trying to snot animals much past 200M.

That’s why I was wondering if the Longer 20 inch barrel would help in regards to shooting distance?

I doubt barrel length will change its shooting characteristics very much at all . . . .
