barrel pitting , glock 17

ok , so my new glock has some pitting in the grooves , this has had only factory ammo (Belmont ) through it ....I will send it to the Importer and get them to check it ,im hoping they replace it , or maybe offer some deal on a lone wolf barrel or similer , ..... anyone know if I have to have the serial number stamped on the barrel , as all factory barrels are , or not ?

You sure its not lead fouling?

I slid along with a pick and it felt like it went in , not over ..... I have been using factory round nose copper ....

Have you cleaned it with some copper solvent or jb paste ?

When I zoom in it looks more like fouling than pitting...

I have owned and shoot glock 17 for a long time,minimum 25.000 per year in my competitive years but have never seen a pitted glock barrel,more like fouling and that's easily cleaned out. Have you used sweets by any chance? If it is pitting your gunshop should replace it without question. I have a glock 17 in my safe that has fired close 120.000 rounds with no pitting and it shoots as good as in its first year! Good luck

Do you clean with anything Ammonia based?

Looking at it again on iPad and zoomed it looks high from my view here
Should have had a look at club.
My 9mm 1911 used to gather patchy lead... I just don't clean the CZ now so no probs :D

This is a manufacturing flaw, usually associated with the tenifer process.

It is considered a cosmetic flaw and should have no affect on accuracy or the life of the barrel.

If it bothers you, it will be covered under your warranty. Might be a lengthy process dealing with the representative and legal paperwork. I have not dealt with Glocks NZ rep so I can't really comment on that.

and the winner is ......... EBF with copper fouling !!!!! ... not so easily cleaned out ... but yup it came clean , ....new to pistols so didn't quite know what I was looking at ....none of my rifles ever did it .... so I learn something every day ..... thank fuck ...

hi mayfly .... sorry to ask but whats "sweets"

Sweets is what I was leaning to initially.its ammonia based.
Don't get it all out and any trace of moisture and you get a nice acid that will munch on anything and even worse with a coat of oil over top.
My advice would be avoid it and use something like Boretech eliminator

Sweets 7.62 solvent,is a ammonia based solvent,if left in barrel for to long it will eat into the steel.

Almost all barrel solvents contain ammonia, in itself it is not a bad thing, just clean it out.

Most polishes do as well, that is why you don't want to tumble brass with Brasso, the ammonia makes it brittle. One of the autosol products does not contain ammonia, that is what I add to tumbling media.

If you have very persistent copper fouling, not the lumpy shit in stumpy's barrel, but fine smears in the rifling, jb paste works like a charm, but again - you need to make sure you get it all out.

On a side not, solvent eats bronze brushes etc, a good tip is to dunk them in white spirits or paint thinners to clean the solvent off - makes your brushes last a lot longer.
