Thread: Barrel threading for suppressor

Using a live centre ensures your thread is concentric with the bore. Bloody sure thats the way I'd want it done.

We still need to dti the barrel and we can set it all up a different way where we use a grizzly rod but thats more costly and time consuming, we use that method only when fitting brakes.

Out of interest @DPT do you undercut the back of the thread at the shoulder like in the PDF Tuukka posted in this thread?

Yes we put a thread relief in behind the thread, always pays to as if whatever you fit to the muzzle doesnt have a relief then it may not pull up onto the barrel shoulder.

@DPT just had my rifle threaded 1/2-20 by a local guy (haven't used him before), putting on your 1/2-20 can is fairly hard(no the rear bush isnt touching), but it goes on, If I try a 1/2-20 T2 Terminator Break it goes on easy as, any ideas what I can do to make your can go on easier? (haven't had troubles with other rifles threaded 1/2-20 with this can.)

Can you still do it fully up by hand or is it a struggle?

The thread in the suppressor must be slightly tighter than the one in the brake.
It always pays for the person fitting the suppressor to have it on hand so they can get a perfect fit.

IMO - Gunworks are sketchy with threads/suppressors. Mine is a Spartan for 7mm08, it has some random measurement that doesn't take stock standard 7mm08 suppressors from other/most companies...maybe it's a Gunworks thing? But it's a pain in the arse. 19inch barrel, might be lucky if I can rethread it later, don't really want to shorten it any further. I also understand that you can get the guys at the likes of DPT to match the thread but it's still a tad annoying.

Had fitter/machinist/armourer (ex NZ Army), mate fit a Waitaki Eng 30 cal Magnum suppressor to my Omark in 308W.
Barrel diameter measured 22.5mm, suppressor thread M18 x 1.
Goes on beautifully, tightens easily by hand and works a treat.
No 'strike', now need to tune the rig up. @ebf knows who I'm talking about.

can do it most of the way by hand, last 1/2 is "rifle between legs and a firm hand" <-holy hell that could be taken the wrong way.
Could I lightly file the threads?

Its too tight, the thread on the muzzle needs a touch taken off it.
A file on the thread is not a good idea, take it back to the guy that fitted it.

Is that last 1/2. Half a turn or half of the thread?
If it's half a turn could it be catching on something like the shoulder?

Nah it's about half of the threading on.

@DPT when you re-crown a barrel what angle do you cut the crown at?
11 degrees, appears to be the standard re-crown angle?

30 degrees, makes the crown a bit deeper for better protection.

So @DPT do you dial in barrels with a dti or just in a 3jaw with live center to get muzzle end true. ?
