Are Basic Pull Throughs Still Available

I'm trying to buy a simple 20 calibre pull through. There used to be stacks of them around, the sort that comprise a short cylindrical weighted rod attached to a length of string with a loop in the other end that holds a piece of cleaning rag.

I've checked out H & F, Gun City and Trade Me but with no luck. They only have bore snakes

    Does anyone still sell them?

    Thanks

In the dim distant past I used to carry one made up of electrical 7/029 single core cable. Long enough to go thru the barrel with enough to pull on at the muzzle end. At the chamber end I removed a 50mm section of outer insulation maybe 100 mm from end. Then just opened the cores and threaded a suitable sized piece of 4x2 thru. Needed to make sure the patch wasn't too tight for the bore. The whole thing just coiled up to a small coil.

No really suitable for a full clean but good enough if you got muck in your barrel whilst out. (Nowadays everyone just tapes the muzzle to prevent that.)

I'm not a fan of bore snakes after getting one jammed.

On the Yank 22rf websites they describe using weed eater nylon with the end fused large enough to grip the patch. The patch is threaded the full length of the nylon. I'd be worried about the patch coming off mid bore though.
They seem to be successful with one guy on one of the forums selling his home made ones.

Otherwise there are these in various types

Easy enough to make. You need some thin, but strong line. I use kevlar cord, heavy fishing braid would work too. Monofilament is fine, but knots might be too big. Loop in either end, one for your thumb, the other for patch. Between the loops, I have a section of narrow diameter PVC tubing to add rigidity so that you can pass it through the barrel. Getting the line through the tubing can be a challenge, so you might have to get inventive with a sewing needle and magnet.

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Not sure if I would want to run my muddy bootlace through my bore.

He said 20 cal, it would have to be a bloody slim bootlace. If he meant 20 gauge, you could use anything.

Interested to know why you don't just use a bore snake.
