Bedding Jobs, I'm now convinced.

Bought a 7mmrm a while ago and was having trouble getting nice groups out of anything factory. I ideally wanted between 3/4 -1/2 moa to make the most of having a magnum calibers range, and was struggling to get under 2. Spoke to a guy I know and he had a go shooting too, just to make sure I hadn't developed a flinch and he got the same result. He recommended a bedding job and quoted it to me. I was a little skeptical but decided to let him have a go. Below are the before and after with the Sako Gamehead pro, which showed the biggest improvement.

Same rifle, scope, shooter and same box of ammo. Have to admit, hard to argue with that!

Sauer 101, has a great big alloy bedding block at the front but just timber at the back. It's now supported at both ends.

How much was the bedding job?

Did ya check everything was tight beforehand?

Not sure yet, at first he reckoned sub $100 but it turned into a bit more of a job than he anticipated so I will let you know when I get the final number.

Yeah mate, several times. Had loose screws, rings and bolts cause issues enough times that that is my first port of call. I even had a scope once that was moving inside the rear ring while the front ring moved on the rifle :s It's my tikka short-barreled 308 and changing to a DNZ Gamereaper fixed that issue.

I had the 100 model in 7mm rm , that thing kicked like Clydesdale and no one could get it to group at all , it was terrible in the end it got sent back to the shop and I got another rifle .

When a rifle isn’t shooting bedding is my 1st port of call
If its a second hand rifle I got cheap i do it myself

If its a new rifle then these days I consider it part of the Purchase its off to the gunsmith bed pillar bed and any other bits I want get done before it fires its 1st shots I want the rifle to be the best it can be before I Even take it home

Here’s another Example of a bedding job fixing a rifle
This was a old brno 601 in 243
It had a pretty nice bore apart from the last couple of inches so I had that trimmed off and threaded by the smith

The couple of groups not messured are from another rifle the Variances in groups size is ammo and me
It certainly turned it into a very accurate rifle For a 30 odd year old gun anyway

Sold it to a mate of a mate who is keeping me updated with its exploits and it’s kicking arse and takeing names on the pigs and deer
