Thread: Bergara break down random poi shifts

ok,I picked up this bit...noone else commented on it....forend loaded in same manner and light pressure via scope hold....so I take it you shooting over a bag,but not using a bipod and pushing downwards on the scope???????

also get someone else to shoot a group in case you are doing something subconscious that you aren't aware of
the shift is too great to be something little
Iv seen a recticle come loose in a bushnell cheep scope on a mini14 and It did do this erratic shift you are seeing

Nick, would it be possible to post some photos of the rifls bedding as well as a close up photo of the actions bottom as well as a photo of the recoil lug?

@Jaco Goosen, they don't have bedding or recoil lugs. It's a break open single shot. The action doesn't sit down into a stock, it's very similar to an O/U shotgun.
@Nick-D, I shoot a T/C Encore and a BA13. You can feel the difference in the lockup when closing the actions of either onto a piece of brass that's been completely FL sized vs a piece that's had the shoulders bumped a couple of thousandths. The former is very positive whilst the latter needs more force. I've started annealing and aiming for 3-4 thou so that it's nice and consistent. That way, there's no difference in lockup depending on whether I close gently or slam shut.

Interesting thanks man. Have you noticed a big shift in poi between for closing. I understand it has been an issue with the tc's and vertical stringing

No, can't say I've noticed any stringing. But I've not shot anything that gives me too much resistance when closing up. I think my brass is sized such that how much force is used to close the action has no effect on lockup and so no effect on POI. E.g...

Once fired military brass that measures anywhere between 1.622" and 1.632" base to shoulder after it was FL sized.

>=1.630" won't chamber in the Bergara, but will in the T/C with a snap.
1.629" chambers in the Bergara with a snap, and chambers in the T/C with a gentle close.
1.628" chambers in the Bergara with a tiniest bit of help. The T/C will literally fall shut.
<=1.627" both rifles will fall shut.

Anything over 1.628" I'm putting through a body die to bump the shoulder down a fraction more before using it. Anything under 1.627" gets stretched out when fired. Everything then gets annealed after firing and all comes out at 1.628"

I dont think it would have a recoil lug or much in the way of bedding if its what i think it is

I reckon you have it sussed bit of the two things.......unconsistant closing and the forend thing...being a break open you loading downwards WITHOUT consistant thing to push onto will not be doing you any favours.... try just holding it as you would in field,use your daybag to support forend by all means but keep ahold of forestock and see what happens...50 quid to a knob of unicorn turd it will behave itself as it cant jump/vibrate around the same as before.

A mate of mine had the exact same problem with his bergara, he tore his hair out then sold it.
I have found with my TC Encore 7mm RM that I don't expect the brass to last as long as in a bolt action. It is not finicky on its brand of brass so just buy once fired batches.
I had problem Tring to get it to group well with hand loads when in the past it shot well. I tried a lot of different powders and projectiles and ended up just chasing my tail! ended up being copper fouling in the bore.... Go figure. As soon as I did a copper removal clean she shot everything under an inch.

Might also be worth mentioning that after around 4 firings I chamber all the brass after resizing to make sure the action closes and that it's not sticky.

Thankfully I purchased it brand new so if it continues it can go back

Would you replace it with another, or have you had enough? I considered purchasing a BA13 a while ago, but while I knew the barrels were a major selling point, I had a feeling there'd be compromises in other areas (end of the day it's a $1000.00 gun).

That said, I know people who have had a heap of success with them. And they're very compact, handy little things.

Bit of a shame you haven't had much luck thus far! Hope you find a solution or a better alternative.

I really like the firearm. Short handy and for 17 shots out of 20 it's very accurate. Trigger is excellent and has lovely ergonomics.

With the 16 inch barrel it is shorter than the ar15 it replaced with a 12.5 inch barrel.

If I can sort the niggles I'll keep it for sure. Its not the only one I've seen that binds up when opening and sounds like it's not the only one with the poi shift.
