Thread: Bergara HMR MAX Mag length Question

Hey Team,

Does anyone know if the AM 300 Win Mag 5 Shot SSSF 3.775 magazine will fit my Bergara Wilderness HMR in 300 win mag?
Bought the 3.850 mag and its too long to fit it seems....

I've also got a Bergara HMR but rebarrelled to 25-06. I suspect I can just buy a standard AICS 300 Win Mag metal magazine and bend down the feed lips to make the '06 case feed.

But I also have the same question as you @3hundred win mag - what length do I buy - the 3.775"?

Or just use a .30-06 AICS mag

Thanks for the link but the Tikka AICS magazines, as far as I know, are different again. They are shorter (3.715), and have a different release compared to standard 3.775" mags which I believe Bargara use (?).

@NZShoota found out the hard way that th 3.175 mag is the max length that will fit in the Bergara HMR long action if that helps mate

@3hundred win mag now I'm even more confused....
So there is a 3.850 mag that is too long (which you brought)
A 3.775 that is too long.
A 3.715 that is too long (fits the Tikka Chassis)
And you say now to get a 3.175 mag as that fits? Is that the internal length you are quoting? What's the overall length?

Yeah I'm really confused with these Bergara HMR magazines.

My understanding is that AICS (Accuracy International Chassis System) magazines come in two action length sizes, short and long. The .338 lapua mags come in two sizes, standard long action and CIP (I had to get my chassis magwell opened up a little as it was just for standard long action).

Those "tikka" AICS mags are for the aftermarket bottom metal which replaces the factory tikka magazine and bottom metal to allow the use of AICS compatable magazines.

Depending on manufacturer and magazine construction, the internal demensions do vary, but externaly should all be very similar as they have to fit AICS compatable systems.

One thing I found on my Bergara HMR 6.5cm is that you have to seat pretty close to the factory mag's internal dimensions other wise if you use a magazine with greater internal length (Magpul AICS Pmag for example) the rounds with a longer COAL can slip under the actions feed ramp and not feed. One solution is to notch the feed ramp a little to allow reliable feeding.

@NZShoota soory mate put you crook, the 3.715 Mag fits in my HMR (Max Coal is a bit shorter than that). Both sizes longer than that don't fit ( 3.775 and 3.850) . Would think the 3.715 would have more than enough room for the 25-06 if you can feed them from it. Not sure on that part sorry

Right I've got it now...finally.
I need a 3.715 length of AICS mag for my Bergara HMR
Which means I could purchase the one for '06 cases that @NZShoota listed from Hardy Rifle....great, thanks for that
