Wonder why they stopped marking the s/s single shot rifles in different calibre's.
They looked a handy little gun and from what i've read they are not a bad shooter. Make a good bush gun or truck/bike gun. Good for a left hand shooter and seem to group ok. Also been s/s in damp NZ bush conditions i would have thought it would be idea
The only negative i've read is a little on the heavy side and the front sling stud is in a funny place for a bipod
Where did you read they're being discontinued?

I think they are still being made in various calibres including the 6.5 x 57R. Had to sit in a quiet place for a moment after finding they were chambered in that. Probably just not imported currently. I have a .308 with the 500 mm barrel and yes it is a little heavy, about 200 grams heavier than my T3 but not ponderous heavy. Mine shoots well and is super handy, even with a muzzle forward suppressor. I can,t shoot prone any more so use a pole cat crossed stick rest.

Yeah its awesome how short they are, with the 16.5 inch barrel mine was a shade shorter than my 12.5 inch barreled AR. They are robust but not ridiculously so.Quote:

Theyre just as heavy as most bolt action rifles cut to the same length, heavier in some cases.. I know what I would find "handier"

Bergara still making them in several calibers, and those are being sold around NZ.
Like with most things, there is a shortage of stock, and some issues with global supply chains.
Not sure what info you got that these are not being made anymore or not for sale in NZ...
I bought a 308 take-down couple of weeks ago. Had to phone around to several gunshops and eventually got one shipped down from Napier.
The take-down model is a handy piece of kit, and the BA13 has one of the nicest factory triggers I have come across in a long time.
I've got one ordered. Been waiting a while though.☹️
I thought it would make a got gun to cart around on the bike but also seems my boy is left handed it would be a gun latter on he could use when he gets his license if you can still get a license when he's old enough.
And here I was thinking that an innocent thread about Bergara singleshots (of all things) would be safe from your .375 H&H pics. Clearly not.Quote:

Only issue I can think of for a youngster is that the BA13 does not have a safety, so the user has to be a bit more aware etc. Having said that, single shots are awesome for kids. The one thing to check is that his hands are large and strong enough to operate the break-open lever.
Yes, they have no safety, but after you load and close it you have to cock the hammer. I use this as a kind of safety by only pulling back the hammer when ready to shoot.
He doesn't use the safety on my bolt action, only load and close bolt when ready to fire. So having no safety is no biggie.
Had a couple of single shot Bergara's, nice and short but bloody weighty, have a Rossi in 223, lighter and also groups very well.
My Rossi 243 is lighter than my Bergara 223, But the Rossi 20 gauge is lighter again. The smaller the pill, the more steel in the barrel making for a heavy short rifle. Howa 223 miniaction weighs in about the same as the Bergara
Generally, the bergara barrels are way straighter than the Rossi barrels. That does not mean that the Rossi don't shoot well, just that the quality of manufacturing is not at the same level.
Ive got one in 45-70gov. Love it. Its such lowbrow fun and brutal. Im yet to see somebody keep a stright face after trying it.
P.s surprisingly accurate too. The only drawback of this cal is the lack of choices for brass and dies. But hey its a close in type of thing not a target rifle.
Compared to a bolt action, when you cut one to minimum length, you end up with an 'action length worth (for given caliber)' more barrel, for the same OAL gun. That has its appeal I guess, over a repeater.Quote:

Having a bit of a play and it seems that the hammer doesn't go all the way forward when I pull the trigger.
Hopefully it goes bang.
the only thing that goes wrong is the break open barrel hinge so keep an eye out for that if it becomes inaccurate. I prefer the Ruger number 1 have owned both
And as I mentioned in another thread I started it’s no wonder the Bergaras feel handy because the 16.5” 308 actually measures 14”!!! So what it says on the box ain’t necessarily so...but with an ASE can it’s still a sweet shooter.Quote:

Got this in 44. With suppressor and pistol rounds it goes real well
Accurate out to 80 to 100 meters. Not worth picking up your rabbits mind you
My niece shoots it no problem or complaint at all.
Makes rather big holes in stuff

Yup, that is normal. The hammer strikes a captive firing pin that is held back by a spring. It is part of the safety mechanism of the rifle.Quote:

searching back through the f/s section there has been some reasonable bergara's for sale but all the ones i have seen come up f/s lately they want the same money as a second hand tikka.
