Spent the last couple days packing in and out std rifle. Gets hooked up on bushes when strapped to pack (even with suppressor removed.)
Makes me think of Bergara Takedowns - at least you can stuff it in your pack instead of hanging it on the side.
Current rifle + scope + bolt + mag + 3 rounds = 3.4kg
BTD says just less than 3kg, bare. Which doesn't sound much lighter, esp. for fewer working parts and shorter barrel.
What's the chance of a gunsmith taking some weight off somehow?

The actions are solid wee buggers. It's keeping an explosion inside with just a hinge and a clip though....
I've got 2, 308 16.5" barrel and 222 20" barrel. They are not light, and there isn't really anywhere you could save much weight - a good chunk is in the actions. But they suit me (I'm a lefty), and they are compact and easy to fit into a pack (so I can take a rifle on bikepacking trips), and is well made and shoots straight.
There are lighter takedowns -I have a Rossi in 308 that is noticeably lighter, it got replaced by the Bergara mainly as I wanted a fast twist barrel to try some heavy for calibre subsonics, and I liked the Bergara 222 so much. The Rossi is going to be sold shortly once I give it the once over and stick a scope on it (if you are keen!). Not the same build quality as the Bergara though, but its ok. Main difference weight-wise I think is that the Rossi (I think its a Pomba?) has a lighter barrel profile (smaller diameter than Rossi Wizard), and the action seems a bit lighter too.
I feel like I heard somewhere the they are prone to rust. Internally in barrel. This true?
I could weigh mine on the weekend to give you some real numbers if you like? Also, what caliber are you looking at? The 222 does have a slightly smaller diameter barrel than the 308, so they haven't just taken the same piece of bar stock and bored a smaller hole...
There was two seperate 243 bakail singles on trademe the other day. .I very much rate them as solid n reliable not light either but reliable.

Is it the short or long barrel version? Not that I suspect it makes much difference in accuracy, my 16.5" barrel one is more accurate than I am I suspect :D Does make a difference in muzzle velocity though, the same 168gr loads are around 150fps faster (from memory) in my 22" 308...Quote:
