"O what a day, what a lovely day"
Nice but I don't like 270's Cheers though.
Perfect time to buy this.
270s are totally unfashionable but, as @Mooseman will confirm, they still perform bloody well.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
My Tikka 223!! And you can own it!!
Boom, cough,cough,cough
what calibres are you specifically after and why do you want to buy a basically brand new rifle as opposed to a 2nd hand one?
https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hun...1408886138.htm - bloody good rifle and an ok scope
https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hun...1404875208.htm - best combo i have found for near your price. Solid scope and quality supp. From a shop so can buy with more confidence
https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hun...1409323961.htm - get the rifle cheap and buy some good rings and a scope.
The Savage Axis is really a price range down, sub-$800 and often as low as $600.
The Savage 'trophy hunter' are usually around $1k as a package deal with Weaver scope, and much better than the Axis. Would be my pick for best value I think.
Howa from your list or the marlin is good too. if you have the knowledge or someone to help the go second hand.
Howa 1500, but im biased, ive got one in 7-08......![]()
While I might not be as good as I once was, Im as good once as I ever was!
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Howa 6.5 Grendel, isn't this where it all started?![]()
Yeah it did mate. I spent a bit of the weekend going round the local sports shops here in Central, no body stocks a Creedmore let alone a Grendel. Ammo is going to be a pain in the arse and I was told that no one would be interested in a Trade in later on as it was to odd ball and would sit on their shelves for years. All of which is is a fair and good point.
Both shops felt a 223 was to light as some of the across gully shots down here are pretty big sometimes.
So the old fav's were talked about.
308 / 7.08 / maybe 6.5 x 55 etc.
I want to drop a deer, maybe a Thar in the future, rattle some gongs and try some longer range stuff and maybe on very odd occasions vaporise a rabbit.
So now my thread ( should have used the old one ) has moved not only to what make of rifle but also calibre . I have a 1k for the rifle, then will get it suppressed, scoped etc.
I really can't make my mind up over 308 , 7.08 , seems like it's really just splitting hairs.
My vote for what it's worth. Based on being a very happy owner of a Howa in 223 1-9 amazed at the accuracy out of the box with what ever I've fed it.
Howa 6.5 creedmoor plenty of range and youtube will show you it's got some serious legs and is bringing down some big animals
Both Shooter Supplies (my preferred seller) and GC sell them in Christchurch and by the way they disappear out the doors ammo supplies should come right.
Otherwise a Lee 50th anniversary kit and you'll be into loading your own (you know you want to) when you start down the long range path you'll be looking to reloading anyway.
P.S. I'm travelling between CHC and DUD reasonably regularly so If you need I can drop something off on the way.

There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
