When you say cost for 6.5, is it projectile cost ? How is 30 cal going to be cheaper (or at least enough to make a difference) ?

Second question, did you get the macmillan locally or import ? I'm keen to chat to someone who has experience in bringing in macmillan stocks from overseas, get the low down on what is involved etc.
Look into the fatso ebf your answer will be obvious

@ebf its not the cost of the pills or powder it runs but to form the cases and barrel life also dies it all adds up and every one likes change. you can get a McMillan stock form nz hunter or dead eyes

What ? Quarter tin of powder per case and replace the barrel after 10 tins ?

Barrel life is sort of a sunk cost, shoot it out then change. Same with your brass, presumably you've already got the 20 cases required to wear out the barrel

    Pretty expensive bush pig
Thought of getting a spss and cutting that back and save you a re barreling?
Pop the McMillan on it and your up and running?
At least then the bolt face will be right

@Bill999 yeah sure an expensive bush pig but I have spent to much on it now to go back hahaha and I also like the fact that ti Remington sets it apart from some of the others, and once done it will be a rifle I will keep and use it rather then having it sit there not getting used much once I get my 7mmwsm up and going. the 6.5 is good and I have shot goats from 50yrds to 750yrds and its good but the cost to re work the brass barrel after 600 odd rounds will be the same cost to do all the work needed to convert it to 308, I have shot apox 100 rounds so far and it has cost me alot for nz hunter to load ammo as I don't have dies for it and when I shoot out the brass to replace it with lapua brass just isn't worth doing

20" is a good compromise in .308 for bush and some longer shots. Plenty of bullet choices and inherently accurate. Get a really high quality match barrel, have it chambered and fitted by a gunsmith that specializes in accuracy work. Don't get it fluted as it's too risky. Get a Jones Custom Products bore guide to protect your new barrel - they machine a bushing to match your high quality cleaning rod that fits in the rear of the guide.
