Id personally buy both , some situations are more suited to one or the other and a suppressor on a 22 means you can hunt in closer proximity to houses etc for the rabbits
AR-15
if neighbours or buildings are not an issue get a remington 870 shotgun
TIKKA 595 7mm08 for the deer 12 gauge for everything else!
There's no shortage of brand new .22s with scope n silencer for the $350 mark. Sort the bunnies n save up for a sjottie in the meantime. Shotgun ammo too dear for rabbits compared to .22 sub ammo
Marlin XT22 from hunting and fishing is a good buy for a basic .22
Then you'll need a 308, then 223 coz being sneaky sometimes isn't an option, then probably a second 308 for close in bush work, but 308's cost a bit to run so you'll need a 7.62x39, now you need a bigger safe coz your first ones too small, now your bigger safe looks empty and sad so you need something for long range or an old school bolty,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, welcome to our world brother
Good advice. A 22 is great for rabbits and possums. It can be used with subsonics and a suppressor and is very quiet or can be used with super sonic ammo. Much cheaper to shoot and more scalpel than hammer. Shotguns on the other hand a really a different sort of shooting. You need to use one for ducks and they are more hammer than scalpel with the likes of rabbits etc. Shot wont travel far so is safer to shoot upwards where there is nothing behind a bird in flight.
I would suggest both, a 22 and a shotgun.
There are plenty of both about for fair money. I even have a new Norinco (wooden stock) that I can do with a scope for $350 plus freight, but this is similar to you nearest shop too.
Owned a savage camper combo 30 or so years ago, had 22 long rifle and 20 gauge barrels had years of fun with it, could be what you need.
Just use bird shot in the 22 for ducks
Get a 22 with a shotgun barrel underneath
