Good advice. A 22 is great for rabbits and possums. It can be used with subsonics and a suppressor and is very quiet or can be used with super sonic ammo. Much cheaper to shoot and more scalpel than hammer. Shotguns on the other hand a really a different sort of shooting. You need to use one for ducks and they are more hammer than scalpel with the likes of rabbits etc. Shot wont travel far so is safer to shoot upwards where there is nothing behind a bird in flight.
I would suggest both, a 22 and a shotgun.
There are plenty of both about for fair money. I even have a new Norinco (wooden stock) that I can do with a scope for $350 plus freight, but this is similar to you nearest shop too.
