Best LA cal for a short barrel

Ive recently brought a 300RUM which has made my 7RM redundant. I want a short barrelled (16-18) suppressed rifle and after a bit of research it looks like if i cut down the 7rm its velocity is going to drop to a 308 so a very inefficient power waster. What could i re-barrel it to that is more efficient in LA ? Or do i sell it and buy a 308.

I would say sell and buy a 308 or what ever tickles your fancy.

Hows the rum going? Have you got a brake?
Im having an edge put together and cant wait to smack something with it!

Something in 6.5 will be better whatever way you look at it.

buying a new (to you) rifle will probably be the cheepest option, long action with a magnum boltface and magnum mag follower is only really good for a magnum or shortened magnum case,
the pill you send is up to you

I would go 280ai or 284win. Would end up a little faster then 7mm08 in a much shorter barrel and u get to choose your twist and contour

Interesting. Would the bolt face suit.

Best to just sell and start again. I'll start, what is your favourite pie? ...

Not sure on feed ramps or follower would depend on cartridge think 280 would be fine as its similar in size to 7mag but 284win is short and fat so prob need adjusting.
Bolt face would need to be closed down but that wouldn't be much, Would not be more then $150 i wouldn't think.

With barrel run a faster then standard twist to ensure it would shoot the 162 amax then you still have a shooter out to 600y quite easy with practice ofc, with no brake or muffs to use or carry.
Recoil would be controllable with a good recoil pad.

Or if you want more plr you could get a slow twist to run the 120ttsx or gmx type bullet.

From memory he broke the foreend on a sako A7?
So would have no issues with a steel feed lips an single stack, only would need face closed small easy job an you can have standard non mag cal, in you pick of barrel an twist like said below, 284 would be my pick less mucking around with forming like the AI in the short barrel where gains might not be worth it that short but then anything long action with 16-18" tube not really worth it
