Thread: Best Overbarrel. 22 suppressor - anyone used a centrefire suppressor on a rimfire?

Hey guys I'm after an overbarrel .22 rimfire suppressor for a build I am doing. I quite like DPT suppressors but they don't do an overbarrel rimfire so I'm looking at the Hardy or Greystone rimfire supprssors.

I'm just wondering how a .223 centefire DPT would perform on a rimfire, it has more volume I think than the rimfire ones I am looking at above - would it suppress better? It is a bit heavier than the rimfire ones I am looking at but I think I can live with that.

I tried my spartan over barrel on the norinco .22lr and it wasnt a huge deal quieter than the manders which is waaaay smaller and lighter...neither will shut supersonics up so gave up on experiment.... with sub sonics its definately quiet...as to how much better ,rather subjective.
you can put any over barrel on with same thread and try it.....you surely wont get baffle strike LOL.

oh and just use DPT overbarrel for .223........

i use the same DPT over barrel on my .22 hornet and.22 rimfire, very quiet with subs on the rimfire.

I was thinking about trying my overbarrel gunworks from my 22.250 on my .22LR, just need to check they have the same thread first

I sucked it up and bought the Hardy over-barrel rimfire suppressor. If I had a centrefire suppressor that fitted, I would have used it instead. Having said that, the Hardy does the job with subs; a centrefire version would be more weight/length for no benefit.

It would be good if DPT made an over-barrel rimfire supressor!

till you fire a super and wreck the plurry thing..... it shouldnt have capacity for the amount of gases created......

@MB but the centrefire has larger volume wouldn't the benefit be better sound suppression due to the larger volume ?

A 22 long rifle is so smaller charge, a rimfire suppressor doesn’t require much volume to work compared to a centrefire.

Why not just use one of those Buffalo River-type cheapy screw-ons? They work just fine , are cheap as chips and if you lose it or break it you dont have more than 25 bucks invested . Its only a rimfire you are dealing with - very low gas volume , not a lot of noise

Cause I want an overbarrel.

Get the DPT 223 one with only the end cap on forget the other baffles. As they're modular you can pretty much get what you want.

Use the DPT overbarrel .222/223 suppressor. It's just a .22 cal can, does not matter that it's over engineered for 22LR, that's a good thing.

You will need the right thread and bushings but there is nothing stopping you.

It definitely does not need to be a rimfire suppressor.
