    Best semi

Tasked with buying a mate a couple of rifles for when he is in nz.
One on the list is a semi 22lr
He is left handed but has shot right handed actions mostly.(held left handed)

Iv never owned a semi so bit out of my depth here.
First thought was cz but was told near impossible to get left hand semi action.
1022? Very popular i know but you have to buy triggers and buffers to get them to shoot?
Left hand not essential but would be nice.

I've only ever bumped into one LH 22 semi in the last 15yrs, better to just grab a marlin 795 or 60 (if you can find one) and be done with it.

Hey Cam I don't think it being right handed will really be an issue with semis. I shoot mine right and left handed. You're not really having to work a bolt or anything. That's what I find anyway.

I've got two Ruger 10/22s (one from the 60's, one from 2007 ish). The newer one needed a trigger job, and you can't hit a barn door with it. The old one is all good though.

If I were in the market for another semi I'd have a decent look around other manufacturers. I'd imagine the CZ would be choice based on the quality of the 452's I've owned.

Yup, in 22 I'd not bother with a lefty.

Get a marlin 795, and have enough money left over for a decent scope and ammo.

I had a marlin 60SS a couple of years ago, bloody good gun and from memory had a 16 or 17 rnd mag.

A write up in a firearms book I've got say they are one of the best .22 semis available.

A mate back in the day had a rem 597 with major feed problems, not sure if its a common problem.

Unless he wants to shoot an antique browning (or the crappy Norinco copy) with bottom eject I don't think you will source a left handed 22 auto. And if they do exist would something so rare be sitting in a NZ gun shop's rack?? Go the Marlin 795 or 60. Somewhere around 15 million (if my memory serves me) made. Out of the box performance, no dicking around. Sure the Ruger has the better mag but that's about it.
