Best two way radio's for hunting

Just seeing what everyone else is using in the hills to keep in touch with the rest of your hunting party. I have a Garmin Rhino 700 but find it chews the battery and is a prick to recharge if you don't have a good power supply.

I sold my 5watt GME to buy a rhino such a bad move the GME was way better.

I am thinking of doing the reverse..... with phones and apps nowadays the rhino is only used for communication

Garmin rhino’s seems favoured by party hunters for location tracking.

For comms a 5w handheld, GME or Oricom are the leaders.

For $250 you should get a 5W. Certainly do over here.

Don't bother with Uniden, they're garbage.
GME is ok and is the standard for public channels.

GME 5 watt lasts me 4.5 days before running out of battery

Just used it for the last 9 weeks and it’s flat around 1 pm on a Friday each week

Got 5 watt GME and Uniden units, 2 of each, and a couple of Oricom 3watt I think. Use on the vineyards and farm. All much of a muchness really. 5 watt units got a better range but the 3 watt ones go alright. We even got some cheap 1 watt jobies that do the job, good for a couple of kms on flats and bit over 1 km in bush with reasonable line of sight.

Another vote for GME. 5w ones are awesome and the battery saving feature works well. My mate runs a ICOM 5w works well, I think they cost a bit more though.

Repco has the latest 5w GME on sale for $259

I was hunting with my mate a while back. We had radios (for safety) and I was on the ridge top, and he was below in the valley streambed. The reception was pathetic when we checked to see where each other was. Then I thought; bugger it I'll give him a call on the phone. Crystal clear reception!
