I’ve got the 10x25 pockets and they are pretty impressive. I probably should have gone for the 8x for reasons already discussed, but I still spot animals easy enough.

@Danny The pair of binos I own now are vortex 8x32's bloody handy and their size is great. When I'm feeling flush again I can easily see myself going for a pair of swaros in the same size.

I see swaro do a 8x30 EL? Look pricey though

Yeh they are but I’ll only need one so buy once aye. Sarvo has flicked through a price already. For the size and weight of quality gear I’d rather carry binoculars and a Leica RF and use whatever wherever. I was originally using my Leica for finding also which was ok but far from ideal obviously.

my 10 x42 leica hd-r is the same weight or slightly less (20gm) than my old 10x43 and rangefinder 'combo'

Not that I would use it for that but I have "accidentally" found an animal more than once when ranging a rock or other such object... "oh hey, there's a deer there!

He was obviously making that assertion based on relativity (10x42 stand-alone set up vs 10x42 combo) in which case the combined unit does actually come out a tad lighter (not that 2 ounces means much in the real world).

Anyway. I digress. 8x30s are for weak little boys with tiny hands. Real men use 10x42's...
