    Binocular repairs

We've got a decent pair of Nikon binocs that have been dropped once too often.

Can anyone recommend a decent binoc repairer in Auckland?

    Regards
    Dave

If you're not going to send them back to Nikon (from what I know, they're not as accommodating as other brands when it comes to repairs/warranty work) - then I'd recommend you send them to a well-reputed binocular technician overseas. I wouldn't take a punt with somebody in NZ.

These two are the best in the business.

    1) https://suddarthoptical.com/ - good work, but a bit pricey.

    2) https://www.opticalrepairs.com/ - rather quick turn-around, and reasonable prices.

For bino repairs, expect to pay at least $300 or so for a general clean/service. It can add up to more if there's significant damage that needs mending.

Wilhelm optics in CHCH would at least worth a call. He was one of the best optics gurus around a few years back at least in the south island.

It's a broken eyecup which apparently is a common problem.

Why not make something flimsy when you're charging top dollar? Makes sense to somebody obviously.

Apparently you can wrestle them out of the agents if you try hard enough - I will give it a go.

If not, will try and source overseas.

Mailed the agents, couple mails to identify model of binocs (it's not obvious), stock on hand, price $25 delivered.

    boom.

Just awaiting delivery and to see if it's the right part!
