Looking for a bipod to put on my CZ455 Varmint.
I already have a bipod that clips on through the front sling stud, but it's Chinesium and I don't like it anyway.
Much prefer a bipod that clamps on to a Weaver/Picatinny rail mounted solidly to the forend.
Maybe this one be OK?

What do you want from the bipod?
Do you want something super light weight to leave attached while stalking, or do you want something stable for shooting groups and can just clip on when you need to?
Never been a fan of them, much prefer a pack, rock or my knee. The Harris type that attach to a sling swivel I find make carry with a sling uncomfortable then there's the sticky out bits that always seems to get tangled up and they never seen to be that quick to set up for opportunistic shots. The magnetic attaching ones seem a good idea but I'm too cheap to fork out and they don't do try before you buy.
I will admit they are good for target and "sitting stalking" type shooting if they clear the natural cover.
Yes, must be stable and will use it on my 'spare' CZ when Daughter and/or Grandies want to join me at indoor benchrest.
Don't want them fiddling with my 'good' rifle!
But the spare CZ is a wee beauty and will be quite good for youngsters to use at benchrest, and maybe for me when looking for a bunny.
Like the idea of clipping on/off as then won't take so much space in the gun safe.

Spartan bipods are another good option if you like the MTNgear concept
Atlas are good super stable for a varmint rifle.
I've had spartan, Atlas and now have an MTN Mountain bipod which is bloody awesome for a light weight walk around bipod.
I didn't like the spartan at all, if it was for range shooting or varmint I would go Atlas but the legs are short, for everything else MTN wins hands down

I have used the Spartan and Backlanz bipods, didn't like the spartan much as there was no way to adjust for height other than making it taller and you can't leave it on the rifle unlike the other 2 options I'll mention. Backlanz is very nice and I like it but have been thinking about trying the Mtn gear bipod as being able to attach other things to the pic rail seems like a good feature along with being able to adjust the legs to get super low down.

Have a MDT single pull Ckye pod which replaced my Atlas bipods. A massive step up in my opinion. Getting up to that $1000 mark tho. I justified it to myself, as I have one nice bipod I use on every rifle.
Easily clips on and off a picatinny rail I have on each rifle. At it's widest, it is very sure footed. At it's narrowest setting it is tall enough for steep uphill shots, or working in longish grass.
Notched legs are something I look for now, as there is a lot less faffing around.
Was looking at the Ckye pod and the Mtn gear at the time, but the mtn gear bipod was pre-production and could not be purchased.
Never had anyone using one of my rifles say a bad thing about the bipod. Was not the case when I was running Atlas.

Geez - now all the fashionistas have spoken . . . A Harris at 1/3 or less the costs of the options will do the job. If you must use a pic rail an alli express adapter can be obtained.
Even if you do want to use it in the future for more advanced goals the Harris is still viable, both my 600y F class "possibles" were shot using a Harris, and from the bench, the group sizes I can achieve with the Harris versus the heavy tripod rest are practically indistinguishable. Some people grumble about a "twang" from the Harris design but it's never bothered me.
Buy a knock off atlas if it’s just for shooting off a bench. The lightweight jobs belong in the mountains.
No one ever mentions Harris anymore
If you it's just for shooting off a bench then get a Harris or Harris clone, make sure it's the notched leg version.
No point forking out a bunch of money for a flash bipod if you aren't going to use the features.

I'm a cheapskate, I thing mine cost around 37 bucks, solid. All helps when it goes on the magnum. Awesome on the 22 hornet on top of the cab when slinging from the back of the Ute.
Not many moving targets when shooting off a bench, hence no requirement for a bipod to pan side to side. I broke my harris trying to stay on an animal without lifting my rifle to reset the bipod. Atlas bipod fixed that up, but had an annoying habit of loosening up when panning. Hence going to the MDT bipod. Lives in the side of the pack, so the weight is not on the rifle until it's required.Quote:

I got the MTN (mountain version) before the roar this year and love it. Weighs nothing, super versatile (very long legs and very adjustable angles between them) and clips on / off using the picatinny rail.
Depends what your goals / requirements are.
I wanted something light as I almost exclusively backpack hunt and I wanted it to be detachable easily for pushing through scrub and tight crap.

+1 for the MTN bipod. So light and not bulky.
Another fan of MTN, so light and adjustable. Also run a MDT Ckye-pod on my target rifle or on the .22 around the farm, it's essentially the same as MTN, but heavy duty and notched legs.
For any trip with much walking, the MTN slots onto the rifle and its barely noticable when it's in hand, easy to pull off when going through thicker stuff

I have been using a harris knock off for zeroing and long range. It works well enough. If I was going to hunt with a bipod I would use the QD type. I just cant think of a time a bipod would be useful although I did monopod of a 30rd magazine back in the good old days. Generally I prefer to shoot of a pack or use a sling.
