    Bit of loopy help

Mates young fulla borrowed his dads rifle

Young army officer fairly hard on anything he touches...

    Typical !!

    VX3 4.5-14 X 40

Comes back to find top turrent will only rotate from kinda 12 o clock to 2 o clock then same distance in reverse then stops like its
hit a brick wall IE no adjustment in any direction..

This is for elevation. The lefty righty adjuster feels as per normal

Any one have any ideas on this at all ??

    Mate,

ZL/ZL 2 turret? 1st point of call (if you haven’t done so already), remove the turret and have a look. Try rotating the turret with a flat head, see if rotated any differently. Otherwise, it’s likely a send away job.

Does it have the zero stop ball bearing in it?

Nah, I believe they work off the actual ZL turret. So by removing the turret and rotating the internal dial... should remove any fault in regards to ZL itself. Could be wrong.

This one is the one with Top turrent free to see for dialing elevation and the side one you remove the cap before you can adjust it

Its like someone has forced past the end of adjustment

Yup, I have two HD5’s that have the ZL2 dial on top (enclosed adjustable windage turret)

Could you get a pick for us mate? Or even a small video?
Just to check that we are on the same track.

    Other options;

Internal adjustment might have jumped out. But unlikely. You might be able to check it by lining it up with a horizontal plane and dialing to see if it (the horizontal line in the scope) moves. Doesn’t really help though, if it’s internal, there is no real solution but to send it away.

Without taking mine apart, you may be able to remove the turret in its entirety and check the internals, something may have come loose due to recoil, ie a C clip or grub screw? But again, if you can get it away to a Leupold specialist at cost to the user (postage etc), that would be your best bet.

I Have refitted the cap and tightened the three allen keys. Reckon they were a little loose.

Now I can say it definitely has 3 clicks in either direction then it stops and you ll break something before it will move any more.

Does it look like you can unwind the actual turret attached to the body of the scope? (Under the CDS) from memory, it’s a pretty sealed unit. My guess is that if it’s going the same amount in each direction that it is a loose component inside the turret body, either from “recoil” or likely a drop of sorts...
