Bolt fluting - is the weight reduction worth it?

Greetings all, I'm giving some thought to fluting and lightening the bolt on my Rem Mod 7. It is suppressed, and already has a forward weight bias - is the weight off the bolt going to exaggerate this? Anyone with any indication of how much weight is saved, and if it is worth it? Always looking for ways to lighten the load in order to travel further....Much appreciated.

Look at the stock if you want to save the most amount of weight its the best $ spent per gram of weight saved. Stug stocks is the most affordable. Fluting bolt isnt going to save F all... Losing the suppressor will save a bit.

    Waste of time IMO

Your only going to save a couple of grams in weight and be forever cleaning shit and leaves out of your bolt flutes.

But if the weight bothers you that much hire a Gun Bearer .................. or for a more cost effective solution take one cartridge out of the magazine and learn to shoot straight.

    Cheers

I wouldn't flute it unless you flute the barrel, fit a carbon fibre stock, and fit a lightweight firing pin assembly first

Thanks - confirms what I thought. Stock upgrade is a little pricey at the moment so it's going to be a case of suck it up & keep carrying it up!!

Having a varmint rifle fluted is like a fat guy ordering a diet coke after upsizing.

The only way to give a woodland creature a better chance is to stay at home...not on my watch.

It looks cool but yeah bugger all weight loss. Taking your socks off would reduce the same weight. The Fins came up with the idea for it's original purpose, wasn't for aesthetic purposes obviously.

Probably saved the least amount of weight out off all the mods I've done...but it's the sum of all parts, so all up it added up to a light weight rifle, so not a complete waste off time :-)
