it looks cool but I've seen my mates tikka action full of crud that went through the flutes while bush bashing.

And the greatest way to save weight is to lose a big of our beer guts.

Once you hunt with a light weight rifle, you'll never want to carry a heavy one ever again. I'm ocd about all my hunting gear, it has to be light weight...all of it! 10 day solo trips in the backcountry on 15kg all up, and a fair bit of that is binos and range finder etc. By traveling light you can go further and that can be the difference between success our not.

Hit the nail on the head. Capable of carrying a heavy rifle, but what's the point when (within reason) a lightweight rifle will do the same job and you are on a long trip.

Its all about perceived weight, a pound saved of a rifle is going to be a lot more noticeable/comfortable physically and mentally then a pound saved from the gut imo

Also if you save a pound of your rifle you can still save a pound from your gut and you are two pounds lighter.

Maybe if you spend your time flying in you have weight to save. Walk in - it has multiple positive benefits...

ounces make pounds and pounds make pain. plus when coming out with 50kg of meat and skin i would gladly loose some rifle weight.

Irons are cheap, tough, light, and practically accurate for almost all realistic hunting needs

Correct, but the older you get the harder it is to pick them up easily
